Newcastle To Play Norwich In Pre-Season Friendly

It seems that Newcastle United are starting to put their pre-season plans together for the summer, before we start our season  back in the Premiership.

Newcastle will face Norwich City in a pre-season friendly at Carrow Road on Saturday, July 24th, 2010, with a kick off at 3:00pm.

Both Newcastle and Norwich have won their leagues this season, Newcastle won the Championship and Norwich won League One, so are both on an upward trajectory hopefully, and Newcastle manager Chris Hughton commented on the fixture this morning:

“We’re delighted to be travelling to Norwich for a pre-season friendly.”

“Like us, Norwich have enjoyed a tremendous season and we’ll both be looking forward to the new campaign with much relish and anticipation.”

“I’m sure it’ll be a good game of football and a terrific pre-season work out for both sets of players.”

Of course when we think of Norwich we think of our young goalkeeper Fraser Forster who spent almost a full season in East Anglia and had a terrific season for the Canaries.

It could be that that Hughton allows Fraser to play another season in East Anglia, and that seems to be what the Norwich club would like, and it will certainly give Fraser lots of games in the Championship next season.

The last time we played Norwich City was almost four years ago, when Glenn Roeder’s side were there for the Craig Fleming testimonial match.

Surpisingly enough only Steve Harper and Steven Taylor remain at the Tyneside club from the Newcastle squad in East Anglia that night.

Shouldn’t we be playing games against a much tougher opponents to get us ready for life in the big league & not playing games against teams a league below us, as that will not get us ready…
We should play teams like Ranger, Celtic, Hibs etc on the Scottish tour or try to arrange for some foriegn teams to come to the TOON for a Sir Bobby Robson Memorial Trophy or summit 🙂

You can’t count that game, we had a 1st team who didn’t care if we won or not, so we could have played Blindman Utd & still lost that game…. This season we’ve got a team who’re playing as one, who want to win & who’re singing from the same song sheet, so we should by all acount wipe the floor with the Leyton Orients of the league now!!!

We’ve been playing 2nd league teams all season, we need to get some sterner practise in before the season starts or we’ll get hammered big time!!

theres rumours we will be playing rangers and we’ve only released two fixtures as of yet we normally play 6 so the other 4 could be a lot harder, pre season is just as much about boosting confidence not just playing harder teams, if you lose 6 friendlies in a row your not gonna go into the real season with your heads up are you

Errr we’re probably just playing them because of the good relationships built as a result of the Forster loan deal… duh?!

Why the heck shouldn’t we play them, give the youngsters a run out etc.

The more friendly games the merrier in my book.
