Sunderland Manager Praises Newcastle Manager

Steve Bruce was born and bred in Newcastle and is therefore a Newcastle fan who currently manages Sunderland.

Steve Bruce – Sunderland manager praises Chris Hughton

Steve is currently building up a fairly decent Sunderland side, and proof of that is that Sunderland are now in 13th position, and that’s after a disastrous stretch over the winter months when they could hardly get any points.

Bruce thinks Newcastle now have a better side than the one that was relegated last season from the Premiership, as he said today:

“For me, they have a better team now than they did 12 months ago,” “Maybe not on paper to look at, but certainly in spirit.”

“They have shown a togetherness and a spirit which bodes well for the future. It is the manager who deserves a lot of credit for that because he has nurtured it and channelled it in the right way.”

“For all the madness that surrounded him when he took the job last summer, he has shown a calm head to steer them through it all. He has done remarkably well because it won’t have been easy.”

Most Newcastle fans are still coming to terms with just how well Chris Hughton has done at Newcastle over the last 10 months, and the fact he has all the players 100% behind him, certainly bodes well for the future.

We may have lost supposedly good players in Owen, Viduka, Duff, Beye and Bassong, but the first three of those players were nearly always injured, and certainly never played to their full potential on Tyneside, and certainly didn’t earn the huge wages they received.

Steve continued:

“I rate the job he has done extremely highly. He has shown fantastic humility and he has been exactly what he is.”

“We all know him as a genuinely nice man and it’s good to see, sometimes, a nice man getting recognition for what they have done.”

“The job he has done is fantastic if you think of the turmoil they were in 12 months ago, if you think that they got beat 6-1 against Leyton Orient in July as part of pre-season.”

“However he has galvanised them and he has done it very well. To be fair, they have got a group of players there which stands them in good stead for next season when they are back in the Premier League.”

If the team can show the same fight and spirit next season against the big boys, which we have to think they will, we can pick up a lot of points from the bottom 10 sides in the Premiership.

And of course that has to include Sunderland – so there’s 6 points right there. 😀

I’ve just read this on the Journal site & to be honest, if the Muckems could only beat us at the stade-de-sh1te & draw with us at the TOON the last season we played them, they’ve got no chance of beating us home or away next season>>>> plus it was mentioned that they only finished 2 places higher than us in 16th that season & will finish 13th this season after spending around £50m, it beggers belief that Sourpuss thinks they are favorite for bragging rights.. lol

Sad to admit it but Macas35 could be right. Need not be the case but the evidence of CH and Ashley so far points that way.

I think its going to be a hard slog next season,i agree with Ericles. We dont know what will happen but the vibes from CH is that he wont be spending a lot of money, tho i still think we,ll stay up.

How do you work that out after this seasons performaces?? They only started winning after their owner Ellis Short came over & told them if they lost anymore games he’d get a decent manager in who’d make them work harder.. lol

I’m guessing that they’ll be getting loads of more signing in in the summer but I was informed yesterday by a muckem I know, that they already have 11 midfield players on their books & as the new PL rule comes into force next season, every team will only be allowed 25 first team players, 8 of which have tobe home grown!!!
So next season, I don’t think they’ll be any better than us & as long as we finish above them, I’ll be happy 🙂

Simply because they have a much better and more established squad, with more quality in than ours. Up front they have Bent, Jones and Campbell, and in midfield thay have Cattermole, Cana, Richardson, Reid, Malbranque and a couple of promising youngsters. Add in the likes of Turner at centre half, and the fact they will perhaps bring in Hutton from Spurs and Figueroa from Wigan, as well as a few more players on top of that, then it’s obvious they have more quality than us. I would love to see us bring in a top striker, attacking midfielder, right back, defensive midfielder and another winger, but I can’t see it happening somehow.
