This is the silly season, and of course there are some very silly stories in the papers right now – especially today – which is a Sunday.
Jesper Christiansen – Copenhagen’s goalkeeper
Yes that’s Brede Hangeland when he played at Copenhagen
With Steve Harper in top form last season, and Newcastle having two 22 year-old top youngsters, Tim Krul and Fraser Forster, both vying to take over the number one jersey on Tyneside just as soon as possible, why on earth would Newcastle be interested in a 32 year-old goalkeeper?
Well the fact is they are not, but that doesn’t stop reports that Newcastle will be competing with Bolton Wanderers for the Denmark and Copenhagen goalkeeper, 32 year-old Jesper Christiansen.
Christiansen has played for Denmark just 10 times, and has been at Copenhagen since 2005, but we can safely say there is no way Chris Hughton will be going after this player in the summer.
So the Bolton press will not have to worry – they will have zero competition from Newcastle for Jesper – we can assure them of that — but watch the report being regurgitated.
Oh well – as we said – tis the silly season.
Comments welcome.

Comment #82From those freebies would could/should get:
Scharner
Ledley
Petrov
Kuranyi – bit old and wages will be high but 18 goals in 33 games says it all.

Win win if you do. If we stay up : delighted
If we go down : at least you can collect some winnings!

Comment #84The squad is paper thin. There’s no deputy for Enrique. Kadar might be left footed, but he most certainly isn’t a Premier League fullback. He’s a very promising centre half. And only two expertised widemen in the squad (in Gutierrez and Routledge), a position in which players are very likely to be injured.
I desperately hope Hughton can bring some freebies and loan signings in. Nevertheles, it’s going to be a feisty relegation fight with Wolves, Baggies and whoever the playoff winners are, starting early on in August.

Comment #85Listen, we’ll have money to spend.
If Ashley wants to clear these debts he knows that we need a strong team – going back down would be a disaster financially. We’re not going to sell our main players. If he allows them to leave then he seriously threatens our chances of staying up, and therefore seriously damages his chances of clearing the debt (he won’t sell the club with the debt we have).
Just stop worrying about how we’re going to lose loads of players and not sign any. Wait til the summer, we will.
I want Steven Fletcher, perfect foil for Carroll. He won’t want to be playing CCC football either. 3mil at the most.

Comment #86From that list of free agents, you can easily build a Prem squad with those players.
My preferred signings would be from –
Beckford
Petrov
Pedersen(although may not sign)
Raul Tamudo(brilliant striker)
Guerrero(Creative MF/striker)
Kallstrom
Kris Boyd
Any of the three Arsenal Defenders.
As much as I hate to say it, Ashley could be onto something. Rather than doing it on a spur of the moment, he is looking to a long-term plan. It says there will be no financial outlay for signings, but it also says that there will be no talk about transfers until they are finalised. Still, there are a hell of a lot of good players out of contract this summer, as you can see above.

I do agree with you, there will be money to spend. I think they have drafted the statement poorly.
No manager would take that – he would know it’s just suicide having been promoted.

Comment #88I agree with Oba & Bucks. Thats what I tried to convey in my previous comment – ‘It says there will be no financial outlay for signings, but it also says that there will be no talk about transfers until they are finalised’. Just before the Jan transfer market opened, we apparently had no cash, and we signed 5 players.

Comment #90Nothing surprise because I don’t think MA will give us al ot money this summer. I pretty sure we will sign some players but no world beater with high wage of course. After I saw the official statement, I know why we need football expert administration because the one who wrote this statement is shiX !! absolutely no football brain that’s why our board is hopeless.

Comment #91The following comment made by me may sounds that i am supporting Ashley, but actual fact is base on neutral point of view.
Firstly, when i read the comment,i was ecstatic.Yes.I was happy.Cause when i read the word. “No capital Outlay on new players”.My first thought was be that there will be transfer kitty, but no restriction on how much to spend in the summer.
But I guess i interpreted the meaning wrongly. 😆
Anyway,i admit i am a optimistic guy here.I actually agree somehow on what Ashley intends to do.
Come On,even he himself believes the current squad is able to survive, yet most of you all here are indirectly saying this squad is SHIT!!!! 😉
I presume all of us are praying only for survival next season right??? Ashley only said No Money from him this coming summer.
But CH still can get money from sale of players. Rmb we can try to squeeze as much money as possible from sale of Xisco. €2-3.5Million should be ok. Then If CH thinks Best really can’t make it,€900K-€1Million from sale of best.
Let’s just say when next season winter transfer window is open and our situation worsen,I am sure ashley will allow transfers coming in. But on maybe loans etc.Didn’t we did that???
And i am sure ppl will tell me later that,A small transfer budget of around €15Million is ok too.But to me,€15million is alot.Let’s say CH buy some players for €2-3Million,and keep the rest,But still after the fees being paid,we still got wages to give to the new players monthly.I got a certificate in Biz finance management, and by looking at the current financial status of Newcastle,It still not advisable to continue capital expenditure.
To sign Off,if anyone got any comments on my perspective, feel free to comment.
There will be no comment from My Parents on what i said or write here. 😆 😆 😆

Comment #92For those we don’t know. Capital Outlay=Capital Expenditure.
Funds used by a company to acquire or upgrade physical assets such as property, industrial buildings, or equipment.
In this case,NUFC Players. 😉

Comment #93The academy is definitely the way to go. After all they are hand picked from being amongst the best in their generation. One thing we have really done well at.
Ok we’re not Arsenal, mainly because we probably haven’t got the coaching staff to compete on that level. But getting these and using youngsters is a start. I for one look forward to seeing Vuksic as opposed to Butt etc.
