The News Of The World today are reporting that Sunderland manager Steve Bruce would like to sign Newcastle’s 19 year-old England U19 International striker, Nile Ranger.
Nile Ranger – 6’2″ striker going nowhere in the summer
London-born Ranger has made great strides since he was signed 21 months ago from Southampton by Dennis Wise, and he appeared 30 times for Newcastle last season with a couple of goals, and looked very good and certainly very fast.
Along with the slightly older Andy Carroll (21), 20 year-old center-back Tamas Kadar, and 17 year-old midfielder Haris Vuckic, Nile is probably the pick of the Newcastle youngsters at the moment.
And needless to say there’s absolutely no way Newcastle would let Nile Ranger go – and certainly not to Sunderland – even if they do have a Geordie and Newcastle fan, Steve Bruce, managing the Wearside club right now.
Newcastle’s new youth policy is starting to pay off with some great lads coming through the ranks, but the very last thing they want to do is to sell them. The Newcastle Youth team has reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup 3 times in the last 5 years and that illustrates the caliber of youngsters Newcastle have right now.
If Steve Bruce is looking for a future world-class midfielder – the word on the street is that’s what 17 year-old 6’2″ Slovenian U21 International Haris Vuckic will become in a few years time, so he may want to also bid for Haris.
But there’s no way Newcastle will be selling any of their top youngsters this summer, and there’s certainly still a lot more to come from Nile Ranger next season.
We expect him to get regular games for the side by this time next year – and that’s at Newcastle and certainly not Sunderland.
