Danny Welbeck And Tom Cleverley Are Newcastle Loan Targets

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley of Manchester United will be Newcastle loan targets this summer.

Tom Cleverley – Newcastle loan target

Newcastle have been linked with Tom Cleverley many times during the last  year.

Tom, who is now 20 years old and turns 21 in August, was on loan at Leicester in season 2008-2009 and played 15 times with 2 goals while at Filbert Street. The youngster has been on loan at Watford this season, where he’s played 35 times with 11 goals and has had a very good season.

Whether Manchester United would be willing to sell the player this summer is unknown, but it looks like Newcastle will bring in the Basingstoke-born player on a season-long loan deal on Tyneside, with a view to signing the youngster in the future, perhaps.

There’s no doubt that Tom would offer excellent competition to Gutierrez and Routledge on either Newcastle wing next season, and would get plenty of playing time.  Tom usually plays on the wing, but he is also more than a capable defender, so he seems flexible too.

Danny Welbeck – 19 year old striker or winger

19 year-old Manchester-born Danny Welbeck has already played 24 times with 8 goals for the full Manchester United side, since making his debut in 2008, when he was just 17.

And Welbeck was on loan at Preston this year where he played 8 times with two goals.  The 6’1″ player is already an England U21 International and has played 4 times for that side, and also played 10 times for the England U19 side with 2 goals.

Danny can either play on the wing or up front as a striker, and would again be a great addition to the Newcastle United squad for next year.

Both players would be great additions to the Newcastle squad for next season, there’s no doubt about that, and loan signings are OK with us – as long as we strengthen the squad somehow.

We have to think that Danny Simpson, Alan Smith and perhaps Nicky Butt will try to convince the two youngsters that a season at Newcastle would further their careers – big time.

Comments welcome.

I reckon 4 loans and 2 free transfers will come in.

Though reading this again – “There is no plan for new capital outlay on players.”

It may also suggest that there was an agreed amount of funds already in place for Chris and that there will not be MORE – UNLESS he sells.

Thinking about it, that sounds about right to me.

What the amount is though…well, anyone’s guess but I’d say no more than £10 million.

Welbeck is decent and will be a top player but lets be real we Carroll and Nolan and Lovenkrands are not gunna anywhere near 20 goals we need a top Premier League forward that can get about 15 goals to keep us clear of a real relegation struggle!

    I disagree actually.

I think Carroll is well capable of 20 goals, he just needs the right service.

Barton, Routledge and Jonas are the key men in our team for carving out chances.
If they do well, no reason why we can’t score a few

    nightfa11, really?

I’m fairly sure Danny Guthrie went from Liverpool to Bolton with very little experience and did a great job (their fans wanted him to stay).

Similarly Rossi came to us from United, did quite well, but was never really given a chance, now look at him! I’d say theres lots of risk, but it’s a risk that COULD pay off…and if not, at least it’s more bodies, we’re still a fairly thin squad!

Cleverly will be staying with Man United. Darren Ferguson said in April:

“Tom Cleverley won’t be going out on loan next season, he’ll be at United,” Ferguson told the Lancashire Evening Post.

“He is a big part of their first-team plans. Tom is player I know plenty about, I tried to get him when I was at Peterborough.

“There is no truth in the fact that he is going to come here, or for that matter, anywhere else. I’m pretty certain of that after speaking to my dad, he’s going back to United.”

You also have to consider Welbeck and Cleverly were injured for the remainder of the season around Easter time. Welbeck is also quite injury prone, so you have to take that into consideration too.

If we get either on loan, it will be after the season has started imo.

We lacked a serious goal threat and creativity last season to many over paid players living on past credibilities, to avoid the same this season we should go after youth to add to the experience we already have, Daniel sturridge, V.Aanholt and Jeffery Bouma from Chelsea, or D.Boyatta from city, Cleaverly from Utd Wiltshere from Arsenal all on loan, and maybe a bid for P. Whittingham from Cardiff City.

    A few points:

    1) Obviously lads its great to see the youth coming through to the first team.
    2) The transfer policies in the past were stupid.
    3) Wellbeck and Cleverly would make great additions to the squad, but what is the point in encouraging our own youth system if we just get the might be’s at man UTD
    4) Is it a false ecomony to try and save money now and go back straight down to the fizzy
    5) I dont think that we have no… money to spend. Maybe not alot but certinaly 15m maybe a bit less. I would say this is sending a message to other clubs that we will not be ripped off for the players we want.
    6) Ashley wants to see us stay up more than any supporter guys, he is invested to the tune of 400m ish in us, he NEEDS us to stay up. He is not that stupid a man.
    7) i looked at our team sheet this year and honestly i could only say that 8 of the players, harper, colo, enrique, tylor, nolan, Gutiérrez , guthrieand barton have proved themselves in the PL, we should be very hopeful over carroll, simpson, loven and maybe routledge? Ashle is well aware we need to invest.

    There are plenty decent players available on free,s in the summer,but Harewood,no thanks. What makes people think that CH will be allowed to keep our better players if decent offers come in for them,MA seems detemind to recoup as much money as he possibly can in the shortest space of time possible,i would,nt be surprised at anthing the Fat Cockney Twat does. its a case of,: how much have they offered ,sell him,im sure you can manage without him Chris boy,now where is my limo?;

There are plenty of players NUFC can still sign this summer on frees, loans e.t.c.

    Kris Boyd
    Jermaine Beckford
Marlon Harewood (Pray to god No!!!)
MARTIN PETROV (I’m surprised nobody has mentioned him)
    Morten Gamst Pedersen
    Seb Larsson
    Joe Ledley
    Jack Wilshere
    Juan Albin

How about these guys, they’re not that bad and most of them would probably play for the badge, unlike the shite we had in the prem last time we were there. God, I pray we sign Martin Petrov, I know he’s over the 26 age mark but at the moment f**k that and let’s go and sign quality players who will keep us in the Prem.
In Chrissy H we trust, hopefully anyway!

Argentine Mario Santana is available on a free from fiorentina. At 28 he is a very interesting player for us as he can play both right winger and attacking midfielder. What do you guys think? Would provide great cover and I think he would relish a new start at Newcastle!

Good shout with those freebies but a lack of financial clout mite mean teams can beat us on wages. I would love to get Jack Wilshere but we would have to seriously outwit Bolton who have already tried to resign him for next year.

I’d rather just see our youngsters play, Inman and Ranger for example, rather than getting youngsters from other clubs – Welbeck has not proven himself in the premier league this season and cleverly has no premier league expierence. May as well just play our youth players, especially since we’re trying to use the youth model for advancing the club.

Ryan Taylor should stay. He might not be a starter but he is a good backup for right back and on the wings in midfield.
