Coloccini And Gutierrez Deserve To Make Final Argentine Squad

Chris Hughton seemed pleased when our two Argentine Internationals, Gutierrez and Coloccini were both included in the Argentine provisional squad of 30 for the World Cup.

Jonas Gutierrez – included in 30 man Argentine squad

This is what Chris told the official site today:

“I was delighted when I heard they were both in the provisional squad,””They are two players who are both consummate professionals and a pleasure to work with.”

“Coupled with that they are very, very good players and have both had outstanding seasons for us.”

“They will be going into the tournament full of confidence and in good shape because of the way they look after themselves.”

“I would be delighted to see them both make the final squad and I believe they deserve to do so.”

There is now a good likelihood that both our players will make the final cut of 23, to be announced on June 1st.

There is a final warm-up game for the Argentines against Canada on May 24th, and it could well be that Coloccini gets a chance to play in that game.

It’s a certainty that Jonas Gutierrez will make the squad and will likely start in their first game against Nigeria on Saturday 12th June. Greece and South Korea are the other teams in Argentina’s Group B.

Coloccini is more of a doubt but he’s had a fantastic season for Newcastle, and we’re sure that will help him make the cut.

Argentina have a fantastic squad on paper, but I don’t feel this will be thier world cup, not that I am knocking their players, but the manager is the weak link. I reckon this tournament is between Spain and Brazil, but I am often wrong in these things.

    Agree with you entirely G

Appointing Maradona would be like England appointing Gazza!

Spain and Brazil have it to lose, but all it takes is a sending off or a bad injury and its over…I love the world cup!

I love Colo and don’t get me wrong I’d love him to get in the squad, but he doesn’t deserve to be in it when you consider the likes of Zanetti and Cambiasso aren’t. Maradonna’s a nutter.
