Newcastle Interest In Rangers’ Striker Kris Boyd

News today that Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd has said he wants to take a few weeks to consider his future, and whether to sign on again at the Rangers club.

Kris Boyd – free agent come June 30th

There’s some uncertainty at Rangers, not least of which is whether popular manager Walter Smith, who was Everton boss before David Moyes arrived,  will be at the club next season.

Boyd signed for Rangers from Kilmarnock back in 2005 and he has since made 193 appearances with 128 goals for the Scottish Champions.

But of course it’s a lot easier to score in the Scottish Premiership than in the English Premiership, although Kris seems the typical goal poacher.

Kris said today:

“There is a lot for me to think about. This is an important stage in my career and my life,” “I’m going on holiday with my family next week and we will discuss our options.”

“I do have offers from the continent to consider and playing abroad is something that appeals. I will give everything careful consideration and hopefully can reach a decision during the next three weeks.”

Newcastle could be a club to offer the 16 times capped Scottish International a move to the Premier League which is not too far away from Scotland, but we’re not quite sure if he interests Newcastle manager Chris Hughton.

The word is that Hughton wants a proven Premiership League goalscorer and Kris isn’t that.

There is also interest from Middlesbrough and Birmingham and from two Turkish sides Bursaspor and Ankaragucu, as well as Wolves and Wigan, and its hardly surprising a player with so many goals is attracting interest as a free agent.

We’re not sure if Kris’ style would fit in at Newcastle, and of course we already have strikers Carroll, Ameobi, Lovenkrands and Best vying for starting striker  positions on Tyneside next season.

Rangers are in some financial turmoil at the moment, and it may well take some time to sort things out, but if Newcastle are interested in Boyd, then apparently he’s looking for wages of around £25K a week, so Newcastle should be able to afford that.

Kris is just one of many many free agents available this summer.

Comments welcome.

I would say, Boyd looks like a good option. Sell Ameobi, keep Best till january and see if he’s able to produce anything more. If not, sell him too.

I think we should get him as we wouldn’t have to pay a transfer fee to rangers

I would,nt touch Boyd with a barge pole especially as there are better and PROVEN strikers available either for free or very little money.
Ive got m8s who watch Rangers and Boyd is bad news, his attitude is,nt something the Toon dressing would welcome, and he spits the dummy out too much.
DinDan for me,i know, ive mentioned before, would be ideal.he,s got pace to burn and would,nt cost alot.

Hopefully we can get this guy. He is known for 20 goals a season. But, in 🙁 Scottish League :(. Isnt that bad but is not that good. He is a proven goalscorer. Just what we need and is FREE!

Would anyone have objected to taking Henrik Larsson on? Man Utd certainly didn’t and Wayne Rooney improved drastically from his influence.

SPL isn’t great, no, but good players do exist there. Ask Wigan about James McCarthy.

Boyd isn’t the best PLAYER, but he was born in goal and knows nothing but how to score.

He is free and if he flops, we make a certain profit on his sale. It’s a no lose situation.

I never even mentioned the fact Lovenkrands came from the same team and league and he hasn’t done too badly, has he?

As already said he is full of attitude that wont be welcome at NUFC.

Besides McLiesh always seems to get first pick of Rangers drop outs.
