According to today’s Sunday Sun Newcastle are interested in French-born Guinea attacking midfield star Kevin Constant.
Kevin Constant – 6′ tall attacking midfilder
The attacking midfielder who has just turned 23, is a free agent this summer.
He has played over 62 times with 58 starts and 13 goals for French Second Division side LB Chateauroux and the news is that the coach Jean-Pierre Papin wants the player to stay.
LB Chateauroux finished 16th of 20 teams in French Ligue 2, on 44 points, just 1 point above the relegation zone, so they struggled last season to stay in the French League.
A number of sides seem to be after him but his agent, Aurelien Franckel has said the player would love to play in England:
“Teams from Italy, France and Turkey are keen on Kevin, but he wants to play in England,”
Kevin played 4 times for the France U-17 team but has 4 caps for the Guinea side, which he qualifies to play for through his mother.
The player was at Toulouse from 2006 through 2008 but played only 4 times for the first team there, and in January of 2008 was not allowed to play for Guinea in the African Cup of Nations by FIFA because of some passport problems.
With knowing so little about the player and not having seen him play, it’s hard to gauge what the player is like in terms of quality – assuming the story is true.
