There are reports today that Newcastle may be interested in 25 year-old Charlton midfielder Lloyd Sam, with the emphasis on “may”.
Lloyd Sam – 25 year-old Charlton midfielder
According to reports today Burnley FC are said to be looking to sign Charlton Athletic winger Lloyd Sam.
Sam will be a free agent at the end of June when his current Charlton contract runs out, and he seems to be wanted by several Championship clubs.
Sky Sports is reporting that Sam would like to play in a higher division and the fact that Charlton have failed to win promotion from League One after finishing 4th in the league on 84 points, is said to have sparked his desire to leave the London club.
Charlton were eliminated by Swindon, but the two leg elimination went to penalties with Swindon winning the dramatic penalty shoot-out 5-4.
Other clubs said to be interested include Leicester City, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield United and are said to be watching the situation closely.
Sam has played for Charlton over 120 times with 6 goals, and has also been on loan at Leyton Orient, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend United and Lloyd played once for the England U20 side.
We have to believe it would be difficult for this player to make the jump to the Premiership, and would therefore be very surprised if Newcastle are really interested in this player.
