Yes, we know it’s the silly season and there will be some ridiculous reports about various transfers in the gossip press this summer, but today’s report that Blackburn Rovers may be after Kevin Nolan of Newcastle is complete and utter nonsense.
Kevin Nolan – this is the face of the new Newcastle United!
First of all Nolan has waxed lyrical about the Newcastle club and it’s fans (and even owner Mike Ashley as we recall), all last season and he was rightly named the Championship Player of The Year last February and amassed a magnificent 18 goals for the Tyneside club, his highest tally ever, albeit in England’s second division.
In fact Kevin stands a decent chance of being Newcastle captain next season, now that Nicky Butt has left the club, and he’s been talking this week about a 5 year plan, and how he hopes he’s still at the Newcastle club in 5 years time, when Newcastle should definitely be back in European competition.
But when did facts get in the way of a story like this?
Here’s the first sentence of a report we read today:
“Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is thought to be keen to sign Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan.”
Notice the bit about “is thought to be keen” which means they have no idea if he’s interested.
Let’s see what the thinking was behind this story – hey just think if Sam Allardyce wants to improve his Blackburn Rovers side he could go after Kevin Nolan – after all Kevin was his captain at Bolton – and maybe Newcastle have to sell before they can buy. OK that’s good enough – let’s go with it.
And whoever came up with the story, we may be giving them too much credit, if anything, for their thought process.
Kevin Nolan epitomizes the new Newcastle United fight and spirit, which was there for all to see last season, and this lad is going nowhere – except back to the Premiership with Newcastle United.
End of story.
