Now’s The Time To Talk To Any Free Transfer Targets

Chris has given his daily interview to the local Newcastle players today, and he says today he doesn’t expect the transfer market to get really busy until possibly July.

Chris Hughton – transfer market will not pick up until July

Hughton expects the transfer market to be slow until after the end of the World Cup – the World Cup final is on July 11th – and he could well be right about that.

But with any free agents,  clubs will be able to talk to them since last January, so if Newcastle are indeed after free agents then now’s the time to talk to players like Joe Ledley and Albin Ebondo – if they are Newcastle targets.

With Newcastle also interested in loan signings, those will probably not be tied up until early August, as most clubs will want to check on their squads before deciding which players can go out on loan for next season.

This is what Chris told the Newcastle Journal today:

“I really can’t see there being a lot of business done in the market early in the summer this time,”

“It will be June or even July before teams start to make firm offers.”   “I think most managers are assessing what they have and of course the play-offs haven’t even finished yet.”

It would be great if Newcastle can announce some  early free agent signings, and either Joe Ledley or Albin Ebondo, who we have been linked with again today – would certainly be excellent acquisitions for the Tyneside club.

Expect the unexpected. If they say after WC we’ll probably sign someone tomorrow morning, etc.

The priority remains a pacey support striker who can play off a target man and also drop back, making it 5 across midfield; capable 14 goals a season and has two good feet. Beardsley in other words, but a younger version innit.

That a left footer and we have 2 players for every position, if you accept S taylor as RB option and Guthrie on the wing.

Am I wrong in sayong that most managers want the January Transfer window to be longer as 1 month is too short, so what is the point in having a transfer window of 3 months in the summer when the clubs only do business in the last one month???

I think we should get as many freebies in now so that they are intune with the rest of the squad before we start our pre-season friendlies…

I think we’ll lose out on a lot of good players if we wait for to long

Solaidback has a good point. Sign feebies now before preseason so new signings can blend in for the new season. We need to be up and ready whilst others sort through the flotsam and jetsam. Ebondo would be good competition for Simpson. Still need two pacey and clever wingers though.

is there any good free players willing to come to us and be paid 30 a week dont think so
the reason players let there contracts run out is so they can demand massive wages thats us out then
wouldnt be suprised if we get a couple of loans from the top clubs and that will be us done
nufc are now a feeder club for the big teams we need to get used to this until a new owner comes in

i dont understand the whole fasination around the idea lets wait after the world cup. A player is good then hes good, u cant buy someone on the basis of the world cup. It only inflates prices and gives players more options to go to more clubs.

Get them signed now if they are gd enough, we got no money so bring in the half decent players on free or loans available before other clubs get to them before us!

    cmon CH!

It’s not just the wages that free transfers are looking for, they also will want a nice fat signing fee.

The truth is that there are very few people who know what budget (if any) Chris has & what wages he can offer & non them work for the media or post on here. Chris seems confident that he will sign players & at the moment we will just have to trust him. Think our first signing should be a new contract for S Taylor.
