£60K A Week Shawn Wright Phillips Not Coming To Newcastle

Shawn Wright Phillips has apparently turned down a new contract from Manchester City after claiming the offer, £60K per week, made him feel unappreciated.

Shawn Wright-Phillips – £60K/week  offer makes him feel unappreciated

Well, with that statement, we suppose he’s not really suited to Newcastle in any case. And one reason is that Newcastle will no longer pay over the odds in wages and transfer fees on Tyneside, and at least we think it’s about time.

We’ve done far too much of that in the past with not much of a return.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“As far as Shaun Wright-Phillips is concerned, he’s not one that will be coming here.”

“Shaun is in contract negotiations at the moment, and it is normal for him to be linked with other clubs.”

“It’s not something that bothers me because you can’t do anything about it.”

We don’t think Shawn was ever linked directly with Newcastle, other than the fact he’s a free agent this summer, and Newcastle will need to sign some free agents because transfer funds will be at a minimum.

But he’s not worth £60K/week.

Comments welcome.

Before Ashley we would have stupidly paid that much for him & thought he was cheap, nowadays, that is way too much for someone who’s not a regular in his current team & not what the NEWcastle is about.. so bye bye Shawn…

Show me something that Wayne Routledge cannot do that earns £60k a week Shaun…

Looking at Carlton Cole, Matthew Upson, Glen Johnson, Peter Crouch and James Milner in the recent England squads, All have struggled to settle at various clubs yet have made the jump to internationals after finding the right club.

Routledge has a chance if we can hit the ground running next season as he is as good as SWP and Walcott.

I would also be annoyed if Carroll, Taylor and Guthrie werent capped after the world cup as inferior players have been called up recently.

I know what you are getting at Craigg but I do not think Wayne is quite in the speed class at Walcott, once Walcott gets any consistency in his final ball he will be untouchable as a right wing, I don’t think there is another footballer that can come close to Walcott for pace.

Nice, tx for the trojan horse while trying to load this page!

If people only want to play for £££’s then sod them, not as if £3 mill a year isn’t enough!

My heart bleeds for players like SWP. IF 60k is,nt enough then he will price himself out of any move by being so greedy.
