Newcastle In Reported Bid For Portuguese Striker

Newcastle United have had a £2M bid for 22 year-old Portuguese striker Ukra rejected by Porto.

Andre Monteiro (Ukra) – 22 year-old Porto striker

The 5’9″ Porto forward played for Portugal Under-21s against England at Wembley last November, and the watching Newcastle manager was impressed with what he saw.

Newcastle have been interested in the 22 year-old for a while, but Porto have decided to recall him for next season, after the player has been out on a loan spell with Olhanense, a club that currently plays in the Portuguese First Division, and finished last season in 13th position of 16 teams, but avoided relegation.

He’s been on loan for two seasons at Olhanense, and played 51 times with just 6 goals, and it looks like he’s never played for the Porto first team, and we wonder if he’ll be good enough for Newcastle.

He played 14 times for the Portugal U21 side with a couple of goals.

Ukra’s nickname comes from his youger days, when his then-blond hair led to him being called “Ukrainian”, which was then shortened to “Ukra”.

So there you have it.

Not seen him play, but with statistics like that it makes you wonder why we would want him? Does anybody know anything other than the wiki article about him? Whats his assist ratio etc?

So much for what Ch said about not getting anyone in until after the world cup unless this is another bull story….

The transfer window open for real on Monday, so if this is the kind of crap story we’re getting already, god help us all come monday. 🙁

As usual “the experts” have deliverd their verdict & based it on what? Have they seen him play? do they know anything about him? Silly me he’s obviously on the PS3, I don’t know why we bother with managers, coach’s or scouts when so many experts are only a click away!

yuwing – surely the number 15 is ukra?

goal scoring record is poor but hes still young and CH obviously thinks hes good enough/can make him good enough (if this report is true)
