As far as we know there hasn’t even been a hint that Newcastle are interested in Swedish International midfielder Kim Kallstrom, but nevertheless the Lyon player is available as a free agent this summer.
Kim Kallstrom – free agent at the end of June
The box to box left-footed Swede, who has played 72 times for Sweden, has a contract that runs out this summer with Lyon.
But the player will be 28 in August, and that may be too old for players Newcastle want to bring into the squad this summer.
It is expected that a full-back, central midfielder, winger and striker are four positions Newcastle manager Chris Hughton will want to strengthen this summer, but of course there seems to be little if any transfer funds available.
The 6′ Lyon midfielder began his career at Swedish clubs BK Häcken and Djurgårdens, before he moved to France in 2003 when he signed on at Stade Rennais.
He moved to Lyon in the summer of 2006, and has been there ever since, and has played 187 games with 17 goals for the French Champions, and he played 87 times for Rennes with 25 goals.
It seems to us he would add a touch of class to the Newcastle midfield, but as we said before, maybe he’s too old.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Last time we are linked with Campbell and we said he is too old (4-5 seasons ago) but he then transform pompey to a good defensive unit.
Last time we are linked with Dunne and we said he is
too old (2 seasons ago i think) but then he is one of the best player of the season for Aston Villa
this 26 years old policy thing is crap.

Comment #3How is a player at 28 too old? Kallstrom is a good player who can shoot from distance and score goals as well.

Comment #4I think most players we sign should be 26 or under, however all is stupid. You have to get the right balance right between youth and experience – just look at Man U for the perfect example. Van Der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Giggs, Scholes, but also Rooney, Nani, Gibson etc.
Also I mentioned Kallstrom ages ago, but have since realised we will never get him a million years 🙁

Comment #5Why do write articles like this when you admit “As far as we know there hasn’t even been a hint that Newcastle are interested in Swedish International midfielder Kim Kallstrom”? Are Newcastle also interested in Kaka, Messi, Iniesta and Rooney too? There is just as much foundation in it.

Comment #6Well lets not cry that we are being linked with these players. I think we all know stories are going to come out every day. Lets just see if any stories come out with a player who would fit into our team. I doubt Kallstrom is a target but Hughton has probably highlighted which free agents are worth a shout. Kallstrom wouldnt fit the bill completely but i wouldnt mind him. I just hope we have some younger flashier players we will try and get before hand.

Comment #8Mrs Beefheart, according to her latest statement through her solicitor, is now a free agent. Accordingly she expects the offers to flood in over the summer. Alas she has has enough of cold NE winters so will be looking for a solid offer from Barca, Real Madrid (or Sporting Lisbon if pushed). However for a mere £100 she is prepared to put out a press release that she is in talks with NUFC and another to say the talks have come to nowt. This should give the blog a few separate articles to keep us punters happy:
1) Who is Mrs B?
2) Mrs B in rumoured talks with NUFC
3) Louise Taylor digs the dirt on Mrs B.
4) Is Mrs B the sort of player the Toon needs?
5) CH looks ahead to Prem Challenge
6) Mrs B once thumped Andy Carroll!!
7) Sporting Lisbon could steal Mrs B.
8) Mrs B being wooed by Big Sam?
9) Maradona drops Mrs B from final 23.
10) Prem will be a step up, says CH.
11) Mrs B or Messi, what the fans think.
12) Mrs B talks in crisis, says insider.
13) CH excited at playing Prem teams again.
14) Bye-bye, Mrs B. Should NUFC have let her slip?
15) “I was ready to sign” Mrs B exclusive.
16) “It’s been a good season all round..” says CH.
17) Lessons learned from Mrs B fiasco?
18) Big Sam spills the beans on why he didn’t sign Mrs B.
19) Chris very happy to be at the Toon.
20) Exclusive: Mrs B lied about being under 26!!

Comment #9If we are going to be paying a fee for a player its not a bad idea if that player has a sell on value & there’s certainly more chance of getting MA to spend if there is a chance of a profit. I think Chris is astute enough not to rule out older players on a bosman or loan. Just look at the job Campbell has done at arsenal.
Wages in france are quite abit lower than the prem so someone like this guy might not be out of our reach.

Comment #10Ed man, why are you now throwing these name of players around that are all over the age of 25 which is what CH himself has said 99% of them won’t even be considered???
It’s bad enough the crap-loids doing it mate, please don’t drop to their level of writing, as your blogg is our one saving grace from all the dross thats out there during these crazy months!!!

What about a bid from Apoel Nicosia, would you take a bid of €10.99?

Comment #12Solaidback, I would gladly pay to unburden myself of her undoubted talents, unfortunately the cash is earmarked for Mrs B’s entertainment purse, and to skim off even a mere percentage would be more than my remaining life is worth. Your offer is nevertheless appreciated, despite the current perilous plight of the Euro….

Comment #13Wow! He’s a brilliant player! I know him from Lyon. He started playing quite good. But over time, he played less and less.
Even so, he can make a good job for us. I hope so!

Comment #15His wage demands would be to high for the fat controller to even think about taking Kalstrom to NUFC

Comment #16He isn’t to old, he is a proven creative midfielder, and if we can afford his wages, we need to be taking a look at him.
