Blackpool Promoted – Can Newcastle Now Get Joe Ledley?

In a dramatic final at Wembley this afternoon, Blackpool beat Cardiff City 3-2 to get the 3rd promotion spot from the CC Championship into the Premiership for next season.

Ian Holloway – great job in first season at Blackpool

All 5 goals came in a terrific first half of attacking football, and Cardiff were twice ahead before former Southampton forward Brett Ormerod gave Blackpool the lead for the first time, on the stroke of half time.

Although Cardiff  City had chances in the second half,  the central defense of Blackpool were in outstanding form, and Blackpool held onto their lead fairly comfortably.

Once again a team that finished in the bottom two playoff places in the Championship, has advanced to the Premiership League by winning the play-off  final.

Burnley finished 5th last season in the Championship and then won the play-off spot by beating Sheffield United 1-0 at Wembley – but of course were then  immediately relegated.

Newcastle-born Michael Chopra had a good game, and scored a great first goal for Cardiff City after 9 minutes, and hit the woodwork twice with great efforts.

But at the conclusion of the game, Michael was seen to be in tears sitting on the Wembley turf, as Cardiff failed again to make it into England’s top division.

Blackpool will no doubt now buy several players this summer, but they will also be odds-on favorites to be relegated in their first ever season in the Premiership.

But now to the important thing. 😀

Can Newcastle now tempt Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley to Tyneside?

Joe is  available on a  free transfer – and looks certain now to leave his home-town club this summer. We have to hope that Newcastle at least make a strong move for this very talented 23 year-old.

Howay The Lads!!

I think we can definitely get Ledley now that Cardiff haven’t made it into the PL.

Hope Hughton can tempt him to Newcastle

Fair play to the lad, he took his goal very well today. Hope that Hughton moves fast in his attempt to prise the lad away from Cardiff.

i’d rather he made a move for charlie adam, but can’t see that happening now!

well done to the seasiders though, theyve thoroughly deserved promotion for the way they’ve performed this season.

I don’t see why there’s such a fuss on here about Ledley. What because he’s “under 25 and a free transfer” we should try signing him? He’s not had a good season, apart from scoring today.

I hope Hughton has better transfer targets to be honest.

Shut up. Chopra’s a proper Geordie, who just wasn’t good enough. Why would you want him to fail?

And andrewc, he’s had a bad season because he’s been injured for most of it. When he’s played he’s been pretty good.

What about Lee Clarke then? Is he not a Geordie either?!

No doubt, you’ll love it if he manages us or is Shearer’s number two in a few years time

Lee Clarke played for Sunderland in the second tier and then terminated his contract by telling the monkey that “he just couldn’t walk into SJP in a red and white shirt”. Heart’s in the right place, just a shame about his brain 🙁

Bob Moncur, Bryan Robson, Robbie Elliot, Lee Clarke, Michael Chopra…

Couple of Newcastle legends there, I think you’se need to get a grip of yaselves!

Sometimes decisions need to be made for the good of your carreer, PROFESSIONAL decisions. He’s still a Newcastle lad, and a Newcastle fan! I have 100x more respect for him than the Manc wannabe Bobby Charlton!

Anyway, back to the article, I’m chuffed to bits Blackpool did it!

Ledley showed a couple of moments of real class today, I’d happily take him on a free!

I know Blackpool will be favourites to go down next year, but were they expected to go down this season as well? Don’t think we can write em off entirely, but you’d hope that leaves us with only 2 more positions to avoid next season!

    Great result:

1: Ledley available on a free (C’mon Christopher do your stuff)

2: 100% ENGLISH Premier league next season,

    3. Blackpool far weaker than us and will give us another cushion along with WBA, Brum, Stoke, Bolton , Wigan and Wolves in the sh*te brigade down the arse end of the prem.

4: Cardiff fire sale ?? Whittingham could do us a job.

P.S jesus was a geordie you left out:

    Jackie Milburn
    Shay Given
    David Kelly
    Barry Venison
    Chris Waddle
    Bob Stokoe
    and Alan Kennedy

I can’t believe people are giving chops a slagging for playing for the makems on here? Baffled, after all, it’s not like he scored a few hundred goals for them is it? First opportunity of having a proper job he legged it, so in my books chops is ok. Besides, I seem to remember him scoring a nice goal for us, against some unwashed mob from down the road.

They look nice and genuine as well. I like the away shirt in particular. The home shirt looks a bit odd with a badge on one side of the shirt and nothing on the other. But not bad at all

It would be really nice if they made the 3rd kit same as the 2nd one but YELLOW. That would be really nice! Those are official ones because the Barca ones up top are the real ones for next year. David Villa was wearing them for Barca presentation other day. 🙂

Thumps, I said a ‘couple’ of legends…Meaning Moncur and Robson…I would never refer to Chopra as a Newcastle legend! Yes he scored against Sunderland, but so did Luque…enough said!

As for the shirts, they’re ok, but a little underwhelming! Wouldn’t have minded a bit of blue/gold trim as we’ve had in previous years!

Whats all the fuss about Ledley?
He.s played in the CCC for 4 seasons and has,nt exactly pulled up any trees.
Its not because he,s free by any chance is it?
There are better players than him going for nowt.
There is a feed kicking about with a list and it has many players who,imo wud be a better bet.
