Newcastle After DR Congo International Midfielder

There’s a report in today’s Newcastle Journal that Chris Hughton is interested in bringing Youssouf Mulumbu of WBA,  to Newcastle United in the summer.

Youssouf Mulumbu – Newcastle interested?

Youssouf Mulumbu certainly fits the profile of players supposedly said to be arriving this summer, as he turns 24 next January and plays in defensive midfield for WBA.

Mulumbu was brought in on trial at WBA last year in January, before he finally signed on for the club last summer on a permanent basis. He initially signed a one year deal but extended that by one more year.

Hughton is looking to strengthen his squad this summer but the problem we have with this report is why would WBA want to sell the player, especially to one of their rivals in the Premiership next season.

The 5’10” Mulumbu has just  one year left on his contract, and therefore could possibly be brought in fairly cheaply if the lad wants to join the Magpies.

He has played 8 times for DR Congo and played twice for the France U21 side, back in 2007.

Mulumbu played 38 times with 3 goals last season for the promoted West Brom side.

He started his career back in 2006 at Paris St-Germain where he played  13 times and was on loan at Amiens SC in season 2007-2008, and played 23 times with one goal for the French third division side.

Yes – the question is “Why would WBA sell to a rival club?” Looks like he does not mind cold weather going by the photo background.

Every week we are linked with 20 new players, I can bet you theres no truth in this or 99% of the other players we have been lnked with.

Doubt the truth in the rumour, but you have virtually no chance to take him off Albion anyway.

We can find a guy of his calibre anywhere.

I don’t exactly remember this guy setting the world on fire with his displays for WBA? Still, I supose they had a good midfield last season so it would be hard to stand out there. I still wouldnt fancy him myself though. Besides, from that photo, he looks a little ‘special needs’! Would be like re-signing Amady Faye (Often quoted, that Amady is a great player, but constantly needs to be told what to do as he is a bit of a forest gump!).

Hes just your typical african defensive midfielder. Shop in France and you can find them everywhere, all rather average.

Then again i suppose if we want a top player african midfielder like sessegnon then we have to dream on.

I don’t think we would get this guy based on the fact that he plays for WBA. I don’t seem to remember him making any great contributions to their side during this season. I think we need someone who is a gem and is relatively unknown but has all the qualities to be a defensive midfielder.

I have watched him a few times last season, and I think he is very average

always run around, but cant win the ball, and not good at passing….I think he is no better than what we have even tho we need a high work rate pacy dmc
