Newcastle Reportedly After England U21 Star Nedum Onuoha

With Danny Simpson unlikely to be fit for the start of the season, the Evening Chronicle is today reporting that Newcastle will step up their efforts to sign a right full-back.

Nedum Onuoha – Newcastle target?
Both Ryan Taylor and Steven Taylor are capable of playing at right-back, but more defenders are needed in the summer to maintain sufficient competition for the back four, and cover in case of injuries to key players like Taylor, Enrique and Coloccini.

The Evening Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle are interested in Manchester City skilled defender Nedum Onuoha, and he would be a great signing for the Newcastle side.

But we understand he is also a target of Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, so it should be interesting if indeed Hughton is interested in the player.

There’s no doubt this lad is a good player and he’s played for the England U21 side 21 times with two goals, and he can play anywhere across the back four, which is the type of defender Newcastle need.

One negative with Nedum is that he seems to sustain quite a few injuries, and he has played about 100 times for the Manchester City side, but with new players being drafted into the side this summer by new manager Roberto Mancini, he probably sees his future limited now at the Eastlands club.

Onuoha has been a Newcastle target for the last 18 months, and there was some news – unsubstantiated we may add – that Newcastle are after Nigerian-born defender.

Onuoha was the target of  former Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear in January of 2009, but Joe was unsuccessful in getting the player in a Shay Given plus cash deal with the Eastlands club.

Nedum is a good player and we ahve to hope Chris can attract him to Newcastle United.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

I think that the Chronicle should hold up and stop this panic reporting. It not the end of May yet and because of one injury they are already rushing to the transfer market. We have enough junk coming out of the national press – is it now also the local papers too?

Good player. Would definitely shore up the quality of our defence.

Bad news from soccernet on O’hara though, Redknapp wants 8m for him. Way too pricey for us now.

If Steve Taylor is off to Arse and All then yes – go for Onuoha. If Taylor moves on then that changes the whole complexion of the matter. Besides Onuoha is a versatile defender we could do with.

    Team next season:

Sus: krul, smith, williamson, kadar, liam lawrence, ameobi, vuckic

Onouha bought for straight cash. CM and RM will be priority for january

Carrol and Lov are great but fuller is better than both and will be used in sraight swap with lawrence who will cover spidey

Two taylors out – stevey to arse or villa for 6-9 mill and ryan to bolton or blackpool for 2-3. Probz blackpool whose RB is going to everton

Everton also sign kevin nolan as midfield cover and send distin back to the toon who brought him to englan.

Best kept for january disposal to championship in player swap whilst Cleverly loan will happen in january. Wilshere will be at toon until january and fit in starting line-up.

More youngsters brought in in months october and novemer

Onuoha is a quality player, who would definately improve the balance of the side. The article expresses a concern about him being injury prone. I don’t think he is as injury prone as this implies, and I think the lad has just been unlucky. I would take him.

Incidentaly, the STaylor to Arsenal story was broken by, who tend to be about as reliable as the Daily Star when it comes to transfers. I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

I must say. some of the comments made on here are rather poor. GeordieTartanArmy.. do you know anything about football?.. Team next season.

    Simpson Onuoha Taylor Enrique

    Willshire S.Fletcher Nolan Gutierrez

    Carroll Lovenkrands

Subs. Krul. Coloccini. routledge. boyd.ukra.vuckic. Ebondo

We will sign Onuoha £2million. S.Fletcher from burnley £2.5million. Ukra £2.5million . Boyd Free. Ebondo Free. Willshire on loan untill Jan. Cleverly for the season ( which is almost done ) Boyd may not come to us but its 50/50 the rest are almost certain. if boyd doesnt come we will sign Poulsen on loan although that deal may not happen untill Jan. Hughton has already said he does not see anyone else leaving and Taylor and carroll will be at this club next year. only players leaving is the young Italian striker out on loan for £2million. and Xisco £1.5million Taylor will only be allowed to leave for £12million which Villa can’t afford and Arsenal are not prepared to pay.

I wish, he and taylor have formed a rock solid defense for England U21…

but again, we cant afford his wages….forget it

and Aston Villa need a right back, they will definitely go for any top England young players like him

I see Mike Williamson’s price tag comes back to get him. He didn’t cost big money from a big club, so no one remembers him.

jaynufc89 – 2.5 mil for Ukra, a striker who can’t score? What is that valuation based on?

Also, where do you think that 7 mil is coming from when you are only projecting half that much coming in for Xisco and Zamblera?
