It’s an open secret that one of Argentine manager Diego Maradona’s favorite players is Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez.
Gutierrez – will start for Argentina
In their recent friendly on Monday night against Canada, whom they walloped 5-0, Maradona seemed to play his strongest team, with the exception of Barcelona’s great Lionel Messi (what a player!), who was rested because of a slight knee concern.
Gutierrez played the full game and looked impressive, as he often does when he plays for his country.
Argentina play their first game on Saturday, June 12th, when they play Nigeria, and we fully expect Gutierrez to be in the starting line-up.
That’s the same day that England start their campaign against the USA, who were well beaten 4-2 by the Czech Republic last night.
The USA defense looked hopeless last night, with former Newcastle centre-back Oguchi Onyewu looking well off the pace.
The AC Milan player has been injured all season, and has even offered to play for the Italian side for no wages next season, because of that.
Oguchi was playing his first game since a knee injury early last season, and didn’t look solid at all, and that’s being kind.
