Is Kris Boyd Already On Tyneside And Ready To Sign?

There are rumors circulating on Tyneside and have been aired on the local radio channels, that Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd has been seen at the Benton training ground today.

Kris Boyd – already on Tyneside?

Rumors will be rife at Newcastle in the summer, and as Chris Hughton has said – about 99% of them will be nonsense.   But Chris was interested in Kris early last season, and the 26 year-old is available on a free transfer at the end of June.

He had told friends – so another rumor goes – that he would prefer to sign for Birmingham, so he could get back to playing for his former Scotland manager Alex McLeish.  However, with Birmingham having just signed 29 year-old Serbia striker Nikola Zigic from Valencia today, for an undisclosed fee, it could be that Birmingham have given up on the Scottish International.

The striker is a typical goal-poacher, and in 193 games for Rangers has scored 128 goals – and yes we know it’s much easier to score in the Scottish Premier than in the English Premier – but at least it shows the lad has an eye for goal, and we think he could be a good addition to the Newcastle squad.

Andy Carroll can set up lots of chances with his heading ability in the box, and maybe Kris is just the type of player to poke them into the goal, without ceremony.

Kris will cost nothing – and of course his wages will not be too high either, so we would be quite pleased if  Hughton nabs this player.

But it’s  rumors right now – but hopefully Chris Hughton will clear it up tomorrow  –   if Chris doesn’t deny it – then there may even be something to this.

What do you think?

goal record speaks for its self.. if he adapts well to the premier league he could be prolific although not heard anything positive about the rest of his game tho or his attitude for that matter. still could be a brilliant bit of business on a free.. if he flops we could sell him back to rangers for a few million

Rumors are still rumors. I will believe it when CH holds a conference with Boyd (or any other players) participating in.

Can’t see it somehow to be honest. Not too sure if i’d really want him. We do have Carroll unless he gets sent down or we’re selling him and Boyd is his replacement.

Can’t say I know a thing about Boyd as I don’t follow the SPL. I hope his attitude is decent, or the squad will (hopefully) knock him into shape or push him out.

Either way, it’s hard to lose as JSYProject #1 says – if he flops, sell him for a profit.

Could this spell the end for Best..?

Best might score 25 goals next season IF we loaned pref sold him to accrington stanley, but with the best will in the world he ain’t going to do it in the PL you would be very lucky if he got 10 goals and i think that is pushing it

people keep slating his ability because of him being unproven in the epl, are these the same people that were over the moon at the idea of signing beckford? Correct me if im wrong but i’d say even the spl is higher standard that league 1??

I would really love it if Steven Harper retires, which doesn’t really look like it, and Krul takes over. Tim Krul has more potential than ever. He is absolute beast. Magnificent reflexes and always hyped up which team spirit needs, and that is where Newcastle are about. Harper had a really good season of course. But, Krul would of done really better. Just start Krul. I would prefer younger and better than oldddddd and good.

    It’s with sadness i say this…

    Nathan Scott

“We have two scouts at Norway – Montenegro on Saturday apparently, Norman Wooster and another. Not really a transfer rumour or anything, just canny to know where we’re scouting so we can make stuff up regarding who we might be watching.”

Guess it could be Huseklepp and Skjelbred.

Huseklepp has his moments but in general he is unstabil and poor in front of goal. Don’t think he will make it in PL.

Skjelbred was a fantastic talent, but he hasn’t really had the development everybody hoped for and expected. Has been rather mediocre, and as everyone knows – he never scores.

I hate to say it , but we need a Craig Bellamy tight of centre forward to play up front with young Andy, think Lovenkrands will mainly be used as a sub next season……….

Skjelbred is still a fantastic talent, but he needs to get out of norway to develop further. Would love it if we bought him + he’s a newcastle fan! However Huseklepp can stay at Brann for all I care.. Hope they’ll get relegated 😀

And Newutd, there can be several players from the Norway and Montenegro international squads we’re looking at 🙂

I think you’ re spot on. We need a fast guy to play off Carroll. Ideally a younger version of Lovenkrands. I’m not sure Boyd would bring this.

What is obvious though, is that Carroll, Loven, Shola and Best aren’t going to strike fear in to too many opponents.

I always thought Carroll & Ranger could be good and I’d much rather send Best on loan than Ranger. Ranger has potential, I’m not sure what Best has. Bit of a panic buy by Hughton.

Doesn’t Boyd allegedly have a bit of an attitude problem ?

I just copied from Baro´s comment above and filled in S Taylor to the right, Mike, Colo and Routledge. Agree about Best but he is on our books now so its just to support him as a member of Newcastle United.

Its even nice to have Barton, Vuckic and Smith covering central midfield.

Would be pleased if this signing came off.

Hes different from our other strikers, their were times last season we would have wollaped teams if we had a striker / poacher.

I dont for one moment think we will be playing with 2 strikers for the majority of the games next season and Boyd off the bench or at home aginst ‘weaker’ teams will provide spark and represent a danger with throw balls.

We have Guthrie, Routledge and Jonas who love playing balls behind the defenders and we saw that this was not Carrolls strength.

    Happy days from this fan

Boyd has been described as a box player and little contribution on other parts of the pitch or other episodes of the game as a whole. Even the Scots pay him more than CH will be allowed to. Another media pot boiler this one.
