No Truth Still In Kris Boyd Interest?

There were rumors in Newcastle yesterday that Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd was on Tyneside and about to sign for Newcastle United.

Kris Boyd – not on Tyneside yesterday

Lasst week , Chris Hughton was asked by the Journal’s Luke Edwards if there was any truth in the rumors that Newcastle may be interested in the Rangers’ striker.

Kris Boyd is available on a free transfer, and it may be true that the club are still interested in this player, but Chris Hughton said last week there was “absolutely no truth” in the claims made that Newcastle were interested.

So whether he would still say that today is an open question – and we’ve also noticed that Chris can be quite wily as far as transfer talk goes.

There is also a report that we may be bidding for back-four player Nedum Onuoha of Manchester City, but no word yet on whether Chris Hughton has denied that story.

Comments welcome.

To be fair, when he mentioned that his mate works for Shearers, and drops drinks off at the manager and chairmans office, there was your biggest clue JSYproject. Shearers is located underneath the Gallowgate end, whereas the managers and chairmans offices are located behind the glass atrium in the SBR stand. Do we honestly believe the manager and chairman get food and drink from shearers when they have the facilites for the barburgh suite next door?

The talk on the radio last night was that Boyd may even be lined up for Celtic or as a long shot, Brum – no mention of us though.

They are welcome to him lesh, he is just a poacher, and does not make any ‘off the ball’ contributions during a game. I don’t think he will add anything to our team.

    As expected.

    Would gladly take Nedum, though.

Newcastle apparently had scouts towards the end of season watching gokhan inler (udinese) and derdiyok (bayer leverkusen) both players would be great signings,

Ed, you’ve got it wrong mate. If you read the article in the Journal, Edwards is stating that he asked Hughton ‘last week’, not yesterday when the rumours were rife.

    Yes – you’re right – I read it wrong – whoops.
I’ve updated the article – so yesterday’s story could still be true.

Inler would be a massive signing for us. A world class player. I remember us being linked with him a few years ago. But if we bought in another mid fielder we’d have to sell at least one of our crop. Ashley isn’t gonna stand for and why should he Barton,Smith,Gutherie,Nolan atleast 3 of them sitting on the bench at a cost of 150,000 a week.

I don’t think that we can efford Inler or Derdiyok. Both would be a great signings though, especially Inler.

I have said for ages we should get rid of alan smith if we got promoted, along with ryan taylor, ameobi, xisco and best. Inler would be a huge signing, but derdiyok would be an even better signing, really top notch striker, with a good goal/game ratio

obamagic, thats what i thought aswell, just we had scouts at the matches towards the end of the season, with those players been the targets, doesnt mean we will go for them, but both players would be great investments, wouldnt lose any money, derdiyok would probably cost 6-8m and inler the 7-10m,

We’d never get Inler, the likes of Arsenal and Everton were linked with him in January. I think Boyd (Free), Ebondo (Free) Ledley (Free), Cleverly (Loan) and maybe Onouha (£3.5) would be a very, very, productive transfer window, maybe even making a profit if you include likely player sales and wage savings.

Boyd is one of the laziest and overated players i have ever seen, Ebondo is very average, gets caught out of position all the time, similar player to chimbonda, ledley is a good player, and onouha would be an excellent signing. I dont think we could get inler either, im just saying we had him watched. Nothing else has been said about Juan Albin, wondering if that was wide of the mark aswell

He may be lazy and he may be overrated, but his goalscoring record is second to none. He thrives in a 4-4-2 formation, often being left out when Walter Smith goes 4-5-1, which I still think Hughton will favour away from home. If he could get us 10 goals next season it could well make the difference between going down and staying up.

I was screaming for us to get derdiyok when we had the chance for abut 2.5M. Another cock up like getting Best instead of Moses !

his goalscoring record is good, but it is scotland after all, and 90% of his goals are against the bottom teams, he has scored 7 goals for scotland, against bulgaria, faroe islands, georgia, south africa and lithuania, i dont think he would get 10 goals a season, beattie would be a better short term option in my opinion

Rotonda heights, so was I, he has always been a massive talent, but as always we miss out on them for the sake of 500k, and end up with someone like best lol

Best hasn’t been given a fair crack of the whip yet lads. Let him show us what he can do before we are quick to dismiss him. The problem with the Beatie shout, is that he isn’t very adaptable. Teams have to play a game and formation to suit his style, as many managers have found out. If we could accomodate him, then I would probs take him, but if we have to re-design the way we play and re-shape the squad then its counter productive.

Frankly, I think common practice of most clubs these days is to scout pretty much every European club at some point during the season. Often looking for bargains, often watching a particular individual.

This isn’t true. if you was so sure this was true you wouldn’t of put a ” ? ” at the end.. Hughton isn’t going to give his targets away to the press.. Boyd was outside SJP yesterday I know this because I personally saw him and had my picture with him. he said he expects a deal to be sorted by the weekend and he was going back to scotland to spend the next few days with his family and freinds. wait and see. come monday Boyd and Wheater will be Newcastle players
