There were a couple of good news stories on Newcastle yesterday, and we have to hope at least one of them is true.
Nedum Onuoha – would be great signing for Newcastle
The first one was there was a lot of transfer buzz on Tyneside yesterday, that Rangers’ striker and free agent Kris Boyd was already in Newcastle – and ready to sign a deal for the famous Newcastle club.
No real denials coming today from Chris Hughton on that one, although he told the Newcastle Journal last week he wasn’t interested in the player.
But would you say you were interested in a player you were about to sign the next week? Not if you are bright about transfer deals – and Chris is certainly that.
The news was further supported by the fact yesterday that Birmingham, who were said to also be interested, paid out £6M for 29 year-old Serbian striker Nikola Zigic, and it seems that the Midland club will hardly be interested in the Scottish International now.
So there’s still hope on this one, we think.
The other exciting news story, which is getting extra publicity today, is the Sun’s report that Newcastle will bid £3.5M for Manchester City defender, Nedum Onouha.
This lad would be a great signing for Newcastle, and the 23 year-old seems to have no future at the money-bags club, who have reportedly asked manager Roberto Mancini to try to spend £150M on new players this summer.
That may be difficult to spend that much – unless they overpay for players – like they have done in the past – so hey it may be possible – come to think about it.
The Eastlands side may even improve their side this summer, after spending all that money, although we’ll have to wait and see on that one. 😀
But Manchester City will hardly quibble over the fee, for any of their departing players, and there’s very likely to be a number of good clubs interested in Nedum.
But if this story is true, it says Chris will indeed be given transfer money for new players this summer, and the Sun reckons that amount is £7M.
But that’s simply their guess – and our guess would be no more than £10M – but we think that would be enough – with additional free agents and loan transfers.
So we wait for some new news on these Newcastle stories today.
But if we can get the two players into Newcastle – and yes it’s still a big “if” – that would have to be an excellent start to the transfer season for Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2boyd is a good player and so is nedum but would prefer to get boyd for free and oust amiobi or best as one of them has to go this summer now come on t6aking a shot at boyd has got to be worth it we took a shot at best and he cost us 2mill so why would you turn away a freebe and as for nedum 3.5 mill isnt enywere near our price bracket for players we need to spen about 1 mill each to be able to afford the amount of players we need to keep us up !!!

Comment #4Because best is a good trier, who has done everything but hit the net. His work rate is good, his crossing is good, his link up play is superb and he has done nothing wrong to deserve the stick he gets on the blog. Boyd is lazy, contributes nothing to off the ball play, he is a glorified poacher who can only score against the lesser clubs, hence the reason Rangers never play him against decent oposition… thats why.

Comment #5Nedum is an absolute beast!!!
On corners team will be dreading us with Carroll, Colo, Taylor, Onouhua, Nolan, Shola in the middle with Guthries delivery.
And with Kris Boyd…102 goals for Rangers..

Comment #7Have said this too G. Boyd is not the style we need in the premiership. I think for a season back we may need to get some freebies in who are EPL experienced and over 26 years. Darby and Joan no longer play but it may be worth getting some older players with some pace left?

Comment #8Kris boyd is a poacher.. Shearer was a poacher.. he was always in the right place at the right time just like boyd.. and with carroll flicking the ball on boyd could be the man we need to just hit them home.. if he got a return of say 15 goals then thats good for a FREE.. Nedium is a beast tho .. he has GCSE’s hes very very fast and strong and still young can still improve.. I think we should play him at CB with Taylor. our CB will be solid then. play either wheater ( who I am sure hes signing ALOT of people are saying he is ) simpson or colo at right back. most proberly simpson because hes only just signed.. colo and williamson will be good cover.. Mulumbu in the midfield in a defencesive role breaking up the attacks and allowing nolan to break forward with gutierrez and whilshire maybe?.. createing the chances for the front 2. I would love David Ginolia to become Hughtons assistant aswell

Comment #9G, couldn’t have put it better myself. Boyd is a risk – goals in SPL does not equal goals in Premiership and his attitude and work rate have been questioned many times. That said, it’s only a small risk on a free transfer so I wouldn’t complain too much if we signed him.
Leon Best has done nothing wrong though – he’s had limited opportunities, mostly from the bench, and has always put a good shift in. He looked particularly useful as a foil for Carroll. People just see that stats that he hasn’t scored yet and start talking utter rubbish about how it’s due to the fact he’s not a good footballer. I’ve always said you should wait until a player gets a good run in the team before you judge him and that’s exactly the case with Best. Doubt he’ll get much game time next season though – can see him going on loan to a Championship side, although the rumours that he would join Scunthorpe as part of a deal for Hooper are ridiculous because there’s no way Best would be interested in joining Scunthorpe.

Comment #10jaynufc89, lay off the glue mate. You want Onuoha to take Coloccini’s place in defence because he has GCSEs? And why would you want ‘Ginolia’ to take Colin Calderwood’s job? Because he has A-levels?

My source. I know the groundsman at Newcastle. not on a personal level but he gives me information about transfers as he thinks the fans have the right to know. On the Wheater and Boyd deals I saw them myself and I have my picture with Kris Boyd outside St James Park dated Wednesday 26th of May 2010. Gary Hooper told me himself he was going to Newcastle . I attended Sc**thorpes end of season party thing. I had my picture with him and got his autograph. hopefully now the rangers and celtic fans will stop deluding themselfs.

Comment #15jaynufc89 @ 8. Shearer was a poacher? Seriously? He didn’t track back, up and down the field, for both club and country, you could see him helping out in defence, battling away in the midfield, passing instructions and comment from bench to field and vice versa? You really do no sweet FA about football do you son? I suggest you lay off the glue, the disco biscuits, and the dusty showbiz, and stop taking transfer rumours from imaginary friends who work in Shearers, but somehow end up delivering drinks to MA, DL and CH from Shearers, when they have the facilities for both the Bamburgh Suite and Collingwood Suite right outside their offices. In short, try to post something inteligent, truthfull, or original, otherwise, say nothing.

Comment #17Onuaha will sign. mark my words and no I don’t want him to take Colo’s place because of a levels I want him to take colos place because Colo proves last season he can not hack the premier league.. he would have one good game then 4 bad ones.. their was times when he was all over the place.. sometimes I thought his hair got in his eyes.. we need a CB who can actually get a solid partnership with taylor. colo wil be good for cover.. but thats it.. yes he shined in the championship.. but you have to admit he even had some shocking displays in that league.. as for Geordielad.. that isn’t my comment.. I have not once been on that site.. why would I attend a scunthorpes end of season do lmfao… I support Newcastle.. not scunthorpe.. I only attend Newcastle games.. Wheater and boyd will defo happen. and its 60/40 on nedium.. I’d have Nedium anyday.. wheater am not so sure on.. I actually hope am wrong with the wheater story because if we get nedium and wheater then you have to think that maybe we’re selling a CB.. unless we’re using Nedium as a full back.. instead of saying my words are untrue.. why dont you wait untilll august comes and look at th squad if the players I said arn’t there I will come on here and say fair enough I got some of them wrong. I can only tell you what ive been told. but I am 100% sure myself that boyd and nedium will sign. Ireland is 50/50 he could go anywhere.. celtic have no money and are in debt so the mcgeedy transfer could happen.. stranger things have happend!

Comment #19lmao Shearer, the most complete English forward of the last 30 years was a poacher?
do me a favour, you cretin.
this guy’s drivel aside, i think boyd could do a job for us. Every goal’s the same from 10 yards out, and he has the knack of getting the ball into it, SPL or not. And if he’s cack, i’m sure celtic or rangers would have him back in a heart beat.

Comment #23Alan Shearer was a great striker.. but most of his goals was due to being in the right place at the right time along with being in my eyes the best ever pen taker he missed twice in his career or something like that.. also his disaplinery record.. 1 sending off which was overturned.. we didn’t always come back and help out.. Shearer didnt have pace yet still put away a good number of goals.. I think you all have to agree.. Boyd has pace and has a europeon record with rangers.. hes FREE so if or when he joins give him a chance.. Most Newcastle fans dismiss everything someone says.. because as a fan we’ve been let down in the past.. we should be a europeon club we should be in the top half of the table but we’re not .. I am not saying Shearer wasn’t a great striker.. I think anyone knows that even a Sunderland fan would have to admit he was great if not the best striker to enter the prem on his goals record.. but he didn’t always come back as he didnt have pace so their for he was a poacher he was in the right place at the right time.. thing is he always put them away he didnt miss sitters.. he smashed them in.. and let Carroll be the same I hope.

Comment #24I still have my doubts about carroll, he will always be a handful, because of his aerial ability and strength, but i never think we will be prolific in the premiership, he never even managed 20 goals in the championship, and ebanks blake got into the high twenties and i think he scored 1-2 goals for wolves this season, i guess we will find out this season, i still dont think his first touch, and reading of the game is good enough, but he should improve

Comment #25Gan easy lads on jaynufc89. You’re all bleating away at the very mention of the hallowed sanctity that is saint alan of shearer.
There were two shearer’s – the greatest and most complete european forward of his generation – a man who didn’t so much win games on his own but championships on his own.
Then there was the shearer post 3 serious knee injuries, that couldn’t run at pace for more than 15yds- he was a poacher cos he had to be.
Onuoha – without wanting to indulge in hyperbole is one of the most exciting and talented defenders in the english game.
Add him to the likes of guthrie, taylor, carroll, and possibly routledge and we’ll have a posse of post WC full england internationals,, way aye.

Comment #27Everyone must realise Jay is right. Shearer was a poacher… i mean remember that goal he poached from 20/30 yards out against everton??

Seriously, Kevin Phillips or Gary Linekar might have been a poacher but Shearer was a complete forward.

The same website claimed that Taylor will go to Real for 15mill and spidey will go for just a bit less with xisco and best boosting kitty up to 30 mill so the rumours wont be true
Ed, I just one to clarify the ‘no capital outlay’ commetn from newcastle. This means transfers will be paid in one amount and not installments (annually or monthly) – this is a good thing as teams will prefer to get this money in one go so they can use it themselves and also it was using capital outlay that got Pompey into debt

Comment #31Shearer did score some cracking goals his goal against chelsea where he turned marcial desalie was brilliant sorry about the spelling.. but most of his goals came from inside the box and headers and pens.. yes he beat off defenders at time that was thru strength.. shearer battled through serious knee injurys and a broken leg so his pace had gone shearer was the complete forward he knew how to score.. and he still does i saw him in a charity match and he got a hatrick.. I watch him again in June hes playing for an England XL against an all star XL.. shearer will play along pop stars etc etc with Zidanne and others being their its at Old trafford.. I would love him as our striker coach he could teach our strikers a thing or 2.. as for Andy Carroll. I was a bit.. :/ on him.. but he did well after xmas. if he had been that way all season then he would of got more then 20.. carroll causes defences problems with his height hes wanted by stoke and blackburn ( who play route 1 football ) .. Lovenkrands is a very good striker if given the service.. if we get boyd am sure he’ll get goals for us. carroll has alot of improveing to do.. he needs to score more goals and prove himself at a premiership level.. will he do it?.. I have faith but we wont know untill this time next season

Comment #32jaynufc89 post 21 just to try and put some perspective on boyds credentials. This season rangers played 6 games in Europe home and away to Stuttgart, Sevilla FC and Unirea and boyd scored zero.
As for his international record 16 games with 7 goals sounds good until you read his list of victims, they are
Bulgaria 2 games 2 goals
Faroe Isles 2 games 2 goals
Geogia
South Africa
Lithuania
Not exactly setting the world alight with the quality of the competition is he, put him up against a good defence and he blanks.
Now as can we pick him up for zip and if we could get him to sign a pay as you score contract then I would be all for it, but he is not that big a mug.
I bet he bombs in the EPL I would love for him to prove me wrong but I think my money is safe.

Comment #33jaynufc89: “Boyd has pace and has a europeon record with rangers”
Firstly, no he doesn’t. Have you actually seen him play?
Secondly, his European record stands at a whopping 3 goals in 19 games. That’s one goal every 6 games. Wow.
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

Comment #38Boater:- i for one dont and made a similar post earlier, I think carroll will struggle in the EPL, remember ebanks blake, he scored about 28-30 goals in the championship, and he only scored 1-2 in the premiership, fair enough carroll is a handful, but he will find it hard getting the better of premiership centre halves

Comment #39When are you all going to realise there is no money 4 transfers unless free or loans, that also true with the wages. Rightly or wrongly Mike ashley has introduced a five year plan to get the club back in the black, probably for sell on reasons. Onouha, SWP, Boyd, Wheater all pie in the sky and people claiming to see them at st james are just giving things to speculate about, believe me sky will be watching and if any players at st james they will be first to report, no reports at all, loans and frees and long hard season ahead!

Comment #40I thought of writing something about this before reading all the comments posted.
First of all, thanks Robby Bobson for posting Kris Boyd’s goal videos. My first thoughts was wow, 102 goals … but in how many games and in what league? The answer according to wiki is 144 appearance 101 goals – goal ratio of about 0.7 per game. Prolific? Maybe … the thing is Scottish league is argued by some to be of lower tier football and not proven PL striker? … wait a min, hold on … didnt certain J Beckford did all his stuff at League 1 (which could be the same or even lower standard the SPL) though a couple against prem sides and quite a few of us wanted him here? … while on the other hand, Boyd played a few games in Europe albeit only 3 goals in 19 european games.
Seems like another J Beckford so far but with european exp …
This reminds me of Robbie Keane in SPL last season, an impressive goal ratio 14 goals 16 appearance 0.87 goals/game, but with Boyd ending the season as SPL top scorer. One we wouldnt possible afford wages and signing fees, another … well much more affordable …
Now, coming back to the video posted by Robby Bobson … yes it seems like most … and I mean most of his goals is in the penalty/6 yard box, not the goal of the season contenter definitely … but hold on again … didnt a certain A Shearer scored quite a number of that too contributing to his impressive record breaking tally? …
Reaching here … I guess what I wanted to say was … yes, he is not Shearer … not the world record breaking 15m signing anyways … but they do have a similarity … being at the right place at the right time … is that what positioning is about in CM/FM? …
Furthermore, by the looks of it in the video, Boyd certainly aint a certain Oba Martins with his incredible speed, guile and powerful shot with spectacular goals … however, having thought of it true, one of the main difference between OM and KB IMO … seems to be the former being a scorer of spectacular goals … while the other … you guess it … a spectacular goal scorer …
In summary … A Scottish International, 26 years of age, FREE of transfer fees, top scorer of his league, average salary, reminds me of Shearer (for ability to be there) and nolan (likewise) …
Dunno about you guys … but I am defo willing to take the gamble … if he aint scoring more than one third in the PL … theres always Jan …
almost forgot about N Onouha … oh YES pls … if we can afford him …
