There were a couple of good news stories on Newcastle yesterday, and we have to hope at least one of them is true.
Nedum Onuoha – would be great signing for Newcastle
The first one was there was a lot of transfer buzz on Tyneside yesterday, that Rangers’ striker and free agent Kris Boyd was already in Newcastle – and ready to sign a deal for the famous Newcastle club.
No real denials coming today from Chris Hughton on that one, although he told the Newcastle Journal last week he wasn’t interested in the player.
But would you say you were interested in a player you were about to sign the next week? Not if you are bright about transfer deals – and Chris is certainly that.
The news was further supported by the fact yesterday that Birmingham, who were said to also be interested, paid out £6M for 29 year-old Serbian striker Nikola Zigic, and it seems that the Midland club will hardly be interested in the Scottish International now.
So there’s still hope on this one, we think.
The other exciting news story, which is getting extra publicity today, is the Sun’s report that Newcastle will bid £3.5M for Manchester City defender, Nedum Onouha.
This lad would be a great signing for Newcastle, and the 23 year-old seems to have no future at the money-bags club, who have reportedly asked manager Roberto Mancini to try to spend £150M on new players this summer.
That may be difficult to spend that much – unless they overpay for players – like they have done in the past – so hey it may be possible – come to think about it.
The Eastlands side may even improve their side this summer, after spending all that money, although we’ll have to wait and see on that one. 😀
But Manchester City will hardly quibble over the fee, for any of their departing players, and there’s very likely to be a number of good clubs interested in Nedum.
But if this story is true, it says Chris will indeed be given transfer money for new players this summer, and the Sun reckons that amount is £7M.
But that’s simply their guess – and our guess would be no more than £10M – but we think that would be enough – with additional free agents and loan transfers.
So we wait for some new news on these Newcastle stories today.
But if we can get the two players into Newcastle – and yes it’s still a big “if” – that would have to be an excellent start to the transfer season for Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Comment #42SGToona, you do bring up some valid points, but as has been said on many a thread now, boyd wants silly money and a long contract. For the risk he is, I for one am not willing to give it a chance. Whoever above (I cant be bothered to scroll up and read it) suggested Shearer was nothing but a poacher after the 3rd serious knee injury, you are very wrong, yes, he had lost a yard of pace or 3, but he was still contributing to the team effort wherever he was needed, be it defensively, or hold up play in the middle. Deffo not just a poacher.

Comment #46Quite right too. I really can’t believe people on here are badmouthing the man. The only bad thing about AS is that he only owns one champions medal.

Comment #50Agreed, would have been the easiest thing in the world to sign for manyoo, but he signed for us, he stayed with us when he could have easily walked away. He always gave 100% for us, and I defy anybody to suggest otherwise.

Comment #51@ cupiddstunt – aren’t you forgetting one thing mate, a striker is only as good as the people getting the ball to them, so if Boyd hasn’t scored agianst these so called top teams, it’s because his team mates haven’t been able to get the ball to him, its the same as any striker, so give it a rest & if Boyd comes to the TOON, you should back him as you would the rest of the squad yeah!!!
Btw, Manc Al Citey have put a £7m price on Onuaha head, so I doubt he;’ll be signing for us anytime soon guys 🙁
