Arsenal Pursue Steven Taylor – But He’s Not For Sale

An old story has been regurgitated today in the Sunday Mirror – that Arsenal are after Steven Taylor of Newcastle.

Steven Taylor – going nowhere

The news is that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to tempt Newcastle with a £5M offer to get the former England U21 captain to the Emirates.

And Steven could indeed be that cheap with only one year left on his current contract, so Newcastle had better get busy and tie up this local lad on Tyneside for the next 5 years or at least close to that.

As long as the contract is not signed, and with the altercation with team-mate Andy Carroll still in the minds of many journalists, who remain convinced one of the players will leave Newcastle this summer, these stories will keep coming up all summer  –  especially when there is no real news to report on Newcastle.

Arsenal will be  losing several central defenders this summer, but that was also a weak spot in their team last season, and for once the Gunners’ defense looked anything but solid.

And we’re sure Wenger will sign even a couple of central defenders over the summer, but one of them will not be Steven Taylor – we’re sure of that.

One of the keys to success for Chris Hughton in rebuilding the Newcastle side, is that he keeps the current squad he now has in place.

And then the club will need to bring in around four good players in the summer, to be able to compete well in the Premiership next season.

Comments welcome.

I would love it if Steven Taylor can sign a extension up to 5 years. He has been a Newcastle boy for his whole 24 year life and lets hope those years add on. He is a tremendous defender and is key to winning. Was the heart of the defence before he got injured. Chris Hughton already said that Steven Taylor will be going nowhere. I just hope we can hang on to Steven Taylor.

Lets get him on a new contract. At least that way if his next season is not a good one and we find Williamson and Kadar stepping up we can off load him at a decent rate. Why sell him to someone for 8 mill only to have him then go to one of the big spenders for 20 mill. One thing I think Ashley will have learnt is not to let our good English players go on the cheap.

Sunday Sun will be saying we’re in for Messi or that we’re going into administration.

Taylor needs to be tied up with a new contract asap, but if he won’t sign he will have to be sold as we can’t afford him going for a free next summer.

The papers know nowt & just make it up, thing is there’s people on toon websites better at that than they are…….don’t all these people realise that we’re not going to sign anybody except players on loan from league 1, we will only pay £100 a week, everyplayer is for sale, ashley’s taking his loan back, the new kit launch is being delayed just to annoy us, the players pick the team, they are all crap players & will struggle in the epl & houghton doesn’t have a clue…….is there anything I’ve missed?

What’s really worrying about the STaylor rumour is that he is only has one year on his contract. What re-assures me somewhat, is that it would have been easy for him to walk away when we were relegated. It turns out he was one of the first players to commit himself to getting us back. Hopefully someone will be badgering away in the background with a contract for him and this Sunday Mirror nonesense will stop.

Could be a bit of spin from taylors agents to try to get a better deal & if gallas signs a new deal taylor would spend alot of time on the bench.

It’s probably true! Why wouldn’t Arsenal try by offering £5m for him, as it seems the regular thing for Newcastle to sell our best players for next to nothing. Let’s hope we offer him a decent contract sooner rather than later! Whoever we sell, we will need to buy a replacement, and in this case, what experienced premiership defender is available out there for that price……who has the knowledge and passion for Newcastle of a local lad?

Baro I like the look of that side, apart from ryan taylor at right back, dont think he is a good enough defender to play right back, and neither is simpson, thats got to be a key area to strengthen over the summer, aswell as getting another winger and striker on board, whats everyone think about maybe getting Jo on loan, he was always a tidy player when he was at everton?

Under the fat man we are a selling club. If the price is right, Taylor will go. We always sell cheaply eg Milner (now rated at 20 millon) and Given etc etc and buy for the max. That list goes on for ever!!!! The fat man will pocket as much money as he can and gamble that we can stay in the Prem. The fat man is gambling on our survival. Clown.
