Andy Carroll Odds-On To Get Newcastle Number 9 Shirt

Chris Hughton has talked today about the famous number 9 jersey at Newcastle United, and whether 21 year-old local lad Andy Carroll will get the shirt for next season.

Some great Newcastle strikers  of the past have worn the number 9 shirt including Hughie Gallagher, Jackie Milburn, Malcolm Macdonald and Alan Shearer, so we’re sure Andy knows all about what it means to be the number 9 on Tyneside. We know he does.

Hughton was asked today who would be wearing the vacant number 9 shirt next season and Chris told the Evening Chronicle:

“It has yet to be decided. But the type of character that Andy is tells me he wouldn’t shy away from it if we hand it to him in July.”

“He has got no fear and I think he would simply revel in the situation.”  “He certainly will be a good candidate for it.”

“When you look at the greats who’ve worn it, it can be a burden for others, but I honestly don’t think it would be for Andy.”

“He’s not that type of character.”

England also seem keen on making sure Carroll remains available to the England side, after Scotland have said they want Andy to commit to them, but Andy has said he wants to play for England. Good.

Chris talked about the vast improvement Andy made in his game this year:

“With all players you are always looking for an improvement from them each season.”  “And I think Andy has certainly given us that.”

“It’s pleasing progress for us and, of course, with the type of player that Andy Carroll is and the age he’s at, we’ll be looking for more development from him.”

It will not be easy for Andy next season, but the lad is still improving and seems to listen closely to what Chris Hughton asks of him.

Chris may still become an excellent manager at Newcastle – but he is already an excellent coach – and few would argue with that.

Andy will  not go too far wrong it he keeps listening  to his coach.

Court case this week. Forgot about it until I read it somewhere else.

Maybe he will get sent down?

A pregnant woman got sent down for 18 months last week for the exact same charge, and it was her first offence.

If Carroll doesn’t get the same treatment then I would imagine there will be complaints left, right and centre.

    Young and immature..

Cracking player and would be ashame to see him go down…

Carroll is on par with enrique and nolan as our best players and he will be needed this season very much…

number 9 shirt should not be given away yet – no-one has donned the shirt in the Premier League who have not been quality
    Shearer – all-time scorer
    Cole – lethal goal ratio
Ferdinand and Martins – Two class acts
Carrol needs to develop further yet and wait

if he was getting a caution he would not be going to court mate, the cps must think he has a case to answer if its gone this far , the best he can hope for is suspended sentence , unless he gets away with self defense , but he would need proof that the other lad had a weapon for it to be justified using a bottle, my opinion he is going down , probably for 12 month , ( what happened to boyd and wheater ? )
