There is news in various newspapers this morning that Jimmy Bullard has agreed to join Celtic on a season-long loan deal.
Jimmy Bullard – agrees season loan deal at Celtic
But the interesting thing for Newcastle fans is that the reports say that Newcastle were the other club interested but decided to look elsewhere.
It is though that Jimmy wanted to stay in the Premiership but has agreed to play in the SPL for a season, provided he passes a stringent medical at the Celtic club.
Jimmy is a good player but we think he’s too similar to what we already have at Newcastle and he carries three negatives for the Newcastle club.
One is his very high wages, another is he turns 32 in October, and the third is that he always seems to be injured.
Joey Barton and Jimmy Bullard must have been the two most injured players over the last three seasons.
Hull signed Jimmy Bullard for £5M last summer, but another knee injury cut his appearances last season to just 15 games with 5 goals for the Hull club, and they were relegated last month.
Bullard started his career in the youth ranks at West Ham, and had played at Peterborough, Wigan and Fulham before joining Hull City.
Hull have been trying to get him off the wage bill, and as long as Jimmy passes his medical they will have accomplished that.
The finances at Hull City are thought to be in a dire state, and it’s vital they reduce their wage bill if they are to survive and perhaps even make a come back next season in the Championship.
