Kris Boyd Would Welcome Interest From Newcastle

Newcastle have apparently made some enquiries about the Ibrox striker, Kris Boyd  in the past – but apparently there has been no contact lately from the Newcastle club for the free agent.

Kris Boyd – would welcome a Newcastle approach

And we are now hearing reports that Kris would indeed welcome an approach from the Newcastle club.

A source said to be close to Boyd, probably his agent, told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Kris hasn’t heard anything from Newcastle,”  “They don’t seem to be doing too much – the whole transfer market’s pretty slow but it’s early days yet, it should pick up in the next fortnight or so.”

“There are Turkish clubs interested, two or three of them seriously so, and four English clubs.” “There was interest from Newcastle in January and at times over the last year or so.”

“Newcastle are a club Kris admires and he would welcome renewed interest.”

This seems like his agent talking, and of course there job is to drum up interest in their players, as they try to get them to new clubs before the end of June, when their current contracts run out.

And it seems that Kris would welcome a move to Newcastle, so he’s at least ticked one of the boxes. Newcastle will only want players who want to play on Tyneside.

But Chris Hughton said a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle had no interest in the player,  although some noises coming out of  Ibrox suggest that Newcastle may indeed be interested behind the scenes.

So who knows – but if Newcastle are to sign this player – they will need to do it within the next 3 weeks or so.

Comments welcome.

of all the crass and jank rumours i’ve heard recently boyd is definately one i hope is true! i know he doesnt have EPL exp. but on a free, his goal scoring record and his willingness to play for us id sign him in a heart beat!

i have great respect for CH has done in the past year and wouldnt fault him in his journey so far. but i think he’d be missing a treat here!

id also like to see that ebondo bloke signed up as well as maybe a cheeky bosman bid for kallstrom n altintop :P!!

Yeah we should def go him wer putting alot of presure and expectation on Andy Carroll’s shoulders if we dont get someone else in to share in with goals. I can see the fans turning on him if he doesnt get the goals which is not fair the lad is still developing and learnin hes trade. If we can get plenlty of supply up to Carroll and Boyd they would more than a hand full in the air and on the ground.

Now I’m sure I remember Jay telling us Boyd had already signed. This says we have not even looked at him since January. Sounds like someone’s lying. I wonder who *whistle*

John has a good point. I admit that I have expressed reservations about Boyd – but, in the circumstances he may be worth going for on a free. Whatever happens, whether we sign some players or not, we must all get behind CH and the players we will have in the coming season!

@jay haters: you obviously don’t understand that this is all just attention being drummed up from the agent and it’s all a conspiracy so jay can have the final laugh when Boyd signs up for Newcastle last friday… no last tuesday… no, definitely after the WC.

    …I think

Regardless of what Jay prommised would or didn’t happen, I still think we should avoid the player, he will be after a 5 year contract on big money. Something we could do without, after all, if we wanted a striker on a big wage who wouldnt get a game in the prem, we could just get Xisco back.

I’d quite like him being on a free, because i imagine he’d be the sort of player you could ship out quite easy if he doesnt settle. I dont think he will set the world alight but I think he could do a job. The problem is their isnt many other options around at the moment, well none to get excited about lol

I personally would have welcomed Xisco back and given him a chance…. but then he fained injury so he can sod off and gan on a free for me.

Agreed completely, coxon. Didn’t he feign injury again when we loaned him out?

If CH says he’s not interested, then thats good enough for me. Boyd is rubbish! A proven goal scorer, in Scotland. So what? And given the way CH has conducted himself in his transfer dealings to date, whats to say he doesn’t have a striker lined up already? Hopefully someone better and who would want lower wages than this waste of time. I for one hope Boyd’s agent takes a day off soon so we can have a day without news reports of how his client is so highly sought after.

As long as this means CH has someone better in mind he’s sure of signing, I’m more than happy to write this off as rubbish. But if not, and we pass this up, we deserve whatever befalls us.
