Newcastle Are After 19 Year-Old Norwegian Striker

There are reports in Norway today that are claiming Newcastle United remain interested in 19 year old striker Marcus Pedersen of Norwegian club Strømsgodset.

Marcus Pedersen – 19 year-old Norway U21 player

The striker has played 37 times for his club with 17 goals.  The 5’11” striker started his career at Hamkan in 2007, before joining his current club in January of last year on a free transfer.

Marcus has played for all the Norwegian youth sides and so far has 4 caps at the U21 level with 3 goals, and in his overall 28 caps at the various youth levels he has scored 14 goals.

He would seem like a good buy for Newcastle – but he will be one for the future, and it could be that if he is signed, probably for a nominal fee,  he could be immediately farmed out on loan.

But of course Newcastle are not the only club interested in this striker, as reports suggest that Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton, Everton, Fulham, West Brom, Heerenveen, FC Twente, Hamburg, Auxerre and Anderlecht are also interested in the Strømsgodset starlet.

Didn’t one of the scandanavian bloggers mention that he looked to lightweight for the English game? Or am I confusing him with somebody else?

As you’d expect, he looks impressive on youtube:

Strong and fast and runs with the ball.

But probably out of our price range I’d think.

This guy is one of the most talented young strikers we have in Norway. He could be a very good investment for us. Would be a brilliant replacement for Best, atleast. Strømsgodset also also have another 19 yr old, Jo Inge Berget (formerly with Udinese) which I think can play both as a midfielder and striker.

Huseklepp is (despite being lightweight) exceptional at times, but he simply does not score. Might do well as a winger though.

Thanks for the info kristfro, but you say he does not score, but the thread says he scored 17 time in 37 games, which doesn’t sound too bad a ratio to me? Of course, wether he can do it with John Terry breathing down his neck would seem a relevant question.

Should also take a look at Harmeet Singh and Mohamed Fellah at Vålerenga. There is a lot of interesting young players in Tippeligaen right now.

No, those stats where Marcus Pedersen. He scores all the time. Erik HUSEKLEPP on the other hand, which we know Newcastle have watched does not. (Even though he might be better at everything else)

Forget about Huseklepp for now.. he is overrated. He might develop more, but for now, his asking price is waaay to high considering what we get. I’m not saying he’s bad, but he is “most likely” to flop.

MArcus Pedersen on the other hand is exciting. He has the physical attributes for the PL. He is strong, fast, has a good shot and is fairly good in the air.

Skjelbred is also a player I still would recommend.. nuf said.

Anyways, we should sign 1 of these.. It would be a good addition to the squad. Norwegian players has a tradition for success in England. When will Newcastle get their 1st?

Ronny Johnsen was our 1st i think.
But how can we sign Pedersen without cash then?

I don’t count Johnsen.. How much did he play?

And what do you know about cash? Of course there is cash. Just not officially.

If a finance man like MA want cash, he’ll get it. Get real.

Re: Marcus Pedersen looks like the left leg is just for standing on, so force him to shoot with the left and does it clear row Z????

I really like that we watch Pedersen. I think it’s only at matter of time before he is in the senior national team and then his price will go sky high. He could actually remind you of a wayne rooney, but obviosuly he is not quite there yet. Get this player, and get Ameobi or Best out. Would be an awsome signing for the future!

    Norway 84…
We are also looking into buying players for the future that don`t cost too much now and will be worth a lot more in some years time.
