We’ve been a little concerned about some of Chris Hughton’s statements of late.

The comments suggest that Newcastle will not sign any player until after the World Cup ends on July 11th, but surely if Newcastle are to sign free agents, that has to be done before the end of June.
The contracts of players usually go from July 1st through June 30th so the contracts of free agents will generally end on June 30th.
And of course their agents will be in action this month in trying to set up new deals for their players, so Newcastle have to be in action right now with success coming before the end June – if indeed we are to sign some free agents.
We know Chris has a number of loan signings in his sights, and it’s fitting that those will not take place until early August at the earliest, with clubs usually not deciding which players will go out on loan until well into the pre-season.
And there still seems confusion about whether transfer money is available, and of course transfers can happen at any time, with those players already having contracts at other clubs, so there’s no rush to beat the June 30th deadline.
But if Newcastle are to sign some free agents this summer then surely they have to be accomplished before the end of June.
What do you think?
