Newcastle Leading The Chase For Star Striker

Newcastle United have been linked with Norwegian teenager Marcus Pedersen for a while now, and if the reports are be believed Newcastle are in the lead to sign the 19 year-old striker.

Marcus Pedersen – Newcastle leading chase for striker

We reported a couple of days ago that Newcastle were interested in the young Norwegian striker and news today that while Sunderland and Wolves are also in the chase, Newcastle were in first,  and are reported to be in the lead to sign the young Norwegian sensation.

Blackburn Rovers and Sam Allardyce are also reported to be interested, but Marcus could be a great signing for the Tyneside club.

He will be one for the future although he would immediately go into the first team squad, and the hope would be that the Newcastle coaches can bring him on in the next couple of seasons to fulfil his immense potential.

Marcus will turn 20 on Tuesday, and was born in Hamar, Norway and has played for all of the Norway youth sides and currently has 4 caps and 3 goals for the Norwegian Under-21 side.

He was at the Hamakam club in Norway from 2005, and made his first team debut for the Hamar club at just 14 years old.

Marcus currently plays for Strømsgodsetn in Drammen, Norway, whom he joined on a free transfer in January of 2009, and he so far made 37 appearances with 17  goals for the club.

He is one of the top youngsters in Norway right now, and we think he would be an excellent signing for the Tyneside club.

Comments welcome.

Alan Shearer (above) sell shola but loan out Best (!?) and go into the season with 2 unproven strikers up front. I think you are an idiot sir, a complete idiot.

How do people know he would be ideal for the Prem?

Is he ‘ideal’ enough for no other team to be bothering their backsides trying to sign him?

    First of all som facts:

The Norwegian 2010 serires, starts in Marc and goes on until October. We have a transfer window in August.

I bet many clubs are waiting to buy players, until the WC is over.

Pedersen almost scores 0,5 goal each game, and that for a club who aways battle in the relegation sone!

Why would he be ideal for the PL. You can never say 100% that he will adapt ot fit in straigth away, but he has a great physic, great shot, not afraid of anything, a superb finisher and a player that gives 100% in each game.

Strømsgodset are of the porest club in the Norwegian Premiership, and I bet they will sell him this summer..

Well, now I`m off to Drammen, to see Pedersen score 2-3 goals, against the team thats number one in norway. (tromsø).
So far they have conceded just 8 goals, in 14 games, but the only team they havent played so far is Strømsgodset.. And the only striker thats hasent had the chance to score against them this season are Pedersen.

I predict he scores 3 today, in front of (what could be) as many as 20 top europen clubs/scouts….

Strømsgodset vs. Tromsø begins in 5 mins. Will be exciting to see how Pedersen does against the second best defense in the league so far this season. Pedersen starts in the centre of a 4-3-3 Godset formation.

10 mins – Amazing freekick from Pedersen from some 27 yards out! Keeper fails to hold the ball and Storflor puts it in the net for Godset.

28 mins – Sigurd Rushfeldt (Tromsø) scores his 160th goal in the Norwegian top flight on a penalty. Marcus Pedersen not involved.
    1 – 1

39 mins – Pedersen and Godset are playing well. Glenn Andersen heads home from a Godset corner.
    2 – 1

HT – Godset have the upper hand after a pretty physical first half. Marcus Pedersen received a well deserved yellow card for a stupid revenge-tackle, and will be suspended for the next match. He plays with a certain temperament and gives everything in every tackle and duel, but it sometimes gets him some unnecessary yellow cards. 2 – 1

greetings from Norway. I am not too sure this is a great signing for us.. I do believe we have much better talent than Pedersen in Tippeligaen, we should rather go for Stokkelien (IK START). Marcus Pedersen can do wonder-goals once in a while, but he is not good enough for Premier League, and he will never be. I don’t get it, reading about the “Norwegian sensation”.. Tippeligaen in Norway is not a strong league, there are a few good players, but Pedersen is not one of them. Players I think it would be worth to look at in Norway:

    Makhtar Thioune, Molde FK (Midfielder)
    Per Ciljan Skjelbred, Rosenborg (Midfielder)
    Marcus Henriksen, Rosenborg (Midfielder)
    Håvard Stokkelien, Start (Attacker)
    Diego Guastavino, Brann (Attacker)
    Cristian Bolaños, Start (Attacker)
    Olav Tuelo Johannesen, Kongsvinger (Attacker)
    Jo Inge Berget, S’godset (Midfielder)
    Mikael Lustig, Rosenborg (Right back)

57 mins – Pedersen is marked and has his back to goal, but manages to get a foot on the ball directing it at the goal. The keeper gets to it. Very close.

63 mins – Pedersen plays wall with Keita and almost gets through.

Commentators report that several clubs are in attendence (read Marcus Pedersen and Jo Inge Berget); Fulham, West Brom, mackems, Anderlecht. No mention of Newcastle.

76 mins – Pedersen is strong and holds off a player and plays Kamara through on goal. Big chance, but bad finish by Kamara.

jlarsen… u must be on crack mentioning some of those players….. Sorry if I’m rude, but u need a reality check..

There are only a few real prospects worth considering in Norway at the moment. Only 2 you mention might be a possible target. Skjelbred and maybe Lustig. The rest is garbage when you compare them to the PL.

I would welcome Pedersen to NUFC. He is not an established player, but a REAL talent. Would go ahead of Best and Ameobi, and also Lovenkrands after he gets some matching. My thoughs anyways;)

I really hope this 19 year old Marcus Pederson signs for us Newcastle. He is awesome. Strong and fast. Has a eye for goal. Hope we snap him up. Offload Shola Ameobi and Leon Best. Play Haris Vuckic and this guy more. Loan Ranger.

    @jlarsen: You must mean Mads Stokkelien… ; )

IMO Pedersen is better than Stokkelien although both are exciting players. Dropping Pedersen from such a list is just BS plain and simple. He’s scoring on a regular basis for a shitty team and is playing extremely well for our U21 side. Get Skjelbred and Pedersen.

kristfo: I could not agree more. Skjelbred and Pedersen would be excellent for us.

Stokkelien had some moments last season, but where is he now? Havent heard of him since… A hype if you ask me..

I would give Pedersen plenty of chances to prove me wrong if we sign him 🙂
I believe Makthar Thioune, PC Skjelbred, and M.Lustig is already PL-quality.. The rest of the crop was just prospects for the future. Not worth it spending lot of money on them. But under the right guidance I believe they can become great players. Sorry if you disagree.

well now thats a post i could relate more to:)

Thioune has dominated at times, but I’m not sure about him in the PL. His style of play demands that he is given much time on the ball.. which he will not get in the PL. He is a good player, but i don’t think he is a good PL player..

When I mention players here, I usually mention those who is less likely to flop. Skjelbred would struggle for a bit in the PL cuz of his lack of strenght. But as in the Tippeliga, he would compensate with extreme aggression and pace. I could agree with you on Lustig.. he is a settled player. And he settled well. He is now on the swedes national team.

But one player that worries me.. is Huseklepp.. he actually sucks ass… . can’t believe we got linked to him. He would get killed in the PL on pace, teqnique, and ability overall.
