Hughton – Kris Boyd Is A Non-Starter For Newcastle

We may be a little naive, but maybe  we should listen to Newcastle manager Chris Hughton about who may,  and who may not be coming to Newcastle United this summer.

Kris Boyd – no interest from Newcastle

So when the news today is that all the talk in Glasgow is that Rangers’ star striker Kris Boyd is all set to become Newcastle’s first summer signing, that doesn’t  jibe at all with what Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is saying today in the local Newcastle newspaper.

It’s being reported that Boyd was a boyhood fan of the famous Newcastle side – but we wonder if that’s true – since that’s the first time we’ve heard that one, and is probably more illustrative of  just how much Kris wants to join the Newcastle club.

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Kris Boyd is a good player, but I can categorically say that there have been no talks at this stage.”“There has been no correspondence and no communication.” “You never want to say 100% no, but it’s a non-starter at this moment.”

So if you believe Chris – then Newcastle are simply not interested in Kris and if they were – surely now is the time to do the deal.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

By the way – take a look at my World Cup Blog For Argentina for the Daily Telegraph – I managed to get in quite a lot about how great Newcastle did last season.  There will be a lot of Argentine fans very knowledgeable about Newcastle United’s before the World Cup is finished – I can promise you that. 😀

He’s gone quite quiet lately hasn’t he? Perhaps he’s returned to the mothership?

Doesn’t feel like we will go there now does it.

Maybe they are just waiting to watch Suarez turn out for uruguay before submitting their e25mil offer?

Nuttyward – I appreciate your dreams but I think we have more chance with Santa Claus that Santa Cruz! Glad Boyd was only in Jay’s dreams after all.

“…… there have been no talks at this stage………?
    a non-starter at this moment.”

I’d not rule out a move for him – look at the words and in particuler “at this stage” and “at the moment”. They don’t exactly close the door do they?

Had CH used stronger words to the effect that there had not been nor would there be [comminication, talks] I’d have agreed 100% with Ed.

But, it is Newcastle United innit!

Apart from keeping shola company playing eye spy and connect 4 in the injury room this season, why else would you want Santa Cruz – who plays about 3 months of football if he’s lucky? Fit wife like.

Tom Mo @ 15. I would take a look at Petrov (Given his injury record, pay as you play?) and Benjani certainly. Not so sure about their ages, but I am fairly sure they are the wrong side of 30 though. Could be worth a punt.

Petrov really is a star player at 31 and with his physich he would easily do two more awsome seasons for us. He has a wonderful foot and would be brilliant when it comes to our teams lack of routine. Would provide brilliant cover on the wings and also fantastic assist-support for our strikers. What do you reckon he is at at citeh? Give him a 2 year contract and make him out first summer signing. we would not regret it! Benjani on the other hand is over the top i think.

He is no better than Stroller and his wages would be too much. Decent player but a non starter at NUFC.

I just watched a video of Boyd’s first 102 goals for Rangers. He is definitely a goal poacher – almost all of his goals are tap-ins! But, for a free transfer, would he not be a decent investment? Birmingham bid £4m (rising to £5m) for him less than 18 months ago – and that was his former manager McLeish, who knows him as well as anyone. I guess the only question is, if we don’t sign Kris Boyd, which striker DO we sign? I don’t see many strikers available on free transfers and we certainly need a proven goalscorer… I would personally take him if his wages aren’t too high, but you never know what tricks Chrissy H might have up his sleeve as an alternative…

Just saw that about Ilan –
    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_6197360,00.html

I thought when he got released that he’d be a good signing and this rumours fits well with what CH has said today about a) not going for Boyd and b) that unexpected players have become available.

Ilan scored 4 goals in 11 games for West Ham in the Premiership. Not a bad return – especially when you consider that he was *apparently* being played out of position. Worth a punt? He’d almost certainly require a smaller (and shorter-term) financial package than Kris Boyd.

Ilan is very average, and no better than what he have got, he is the kind of player we have spent years trying to get rid of, we need hard working, keen players, not money grabbers towards the end of their careers
