Chris Hughton has talked today about the coaching vacancy at Newcastle United for a Reserve team coach.
Colin and Chris – need coaching help – cheer up lads!
That position is a little more important than it sounds, because the new coach’s job will be to bring through the many good youngsters on Tyneside, and of course the Reserve team is always chock full of our better young players.
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I can categorically say that the position will be filled as soon as possible.” “It will be filled by one person, but as yet there hasn’t been a firm decision on who that will be.”
“Like any club, we will continue to assess the options.” “It’s an important position and one that we know needs addressing.”
Chris said yesterday that he had already received a bevvy of applications for the position and there will be no shortage of good candidates for the position.
Former Hartlepool manager and Middlesbrough coach Martin Scott has made no secret of the fact that he would love to be involved at the Newcastle club. Who wouldn’t?
Scott’s contract was recently terminated at Middlesbrough, so of course Martin will be hoping he gets an offer from Chris shortly.
Hughton talked about the former Middlesbrough coach:
“I know who Martin Scott is.” “But as I say there have been no decisions yet – perhaps the reason his name has came up is because he’s available.”
“We’ll have options, including promoting from within.”
Another coach that has been mentioned is the press as a possible contender is John Carver, the well respected Newcastle-born coach who did so well as Bobby Robson’s right hand man when Bobby managed his home-town club to some great success.
Hughton talked about John:
“Everybody knows that John has a good association with the club.” “He’s from the area, and it is not a surprise that he’s been mentioned.”
“He would be the same as anybody else, though – we will have options when it comes to filling the position.”
As usual Chris seems to be giving nothing away at all, but we think it would be good if Chris can bring in a Reserve team coach – even as early as this week.
