Newcastle Have 500 Free Agents Available To Them

Who says Newcastle will not be able to strengthen their squad this summer, even though no transfer money will be available?

Joe Cole – one of 500 free agents available this summer

News today that there are currently 500 free agents on the market looking for new clubs this summer.

These include mostly older players and include stars such as Joe Cole and Michael Ballack od Chelsea, Joe Ledley, Martin Petrov, Hamit Altintop, Kris Boyd, William Gallas, Robert Koren, Sol Campbell and Thierry Henry amongst many others.

While players like Joe Cole, Ballack and possibly Joe Ledley ad some  others are beyond the reach of Newcastle United, there has to be some good players in that list who  could do a job for Newcastle next season- surely.

The players’ union have already listed  more than 400 released players on their website,  (they include Newcastle’s Nicky Butt), advertising the availability of the players and we’re certain Chris Hughton has already been trolling this list of players over the past few weeks.

Here are the top 30- up for grabs this summer – according to the Daily Mail:

As PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor said today:

“It is a very insecure career.”

Let’s hope Newcastle can find a couple of free agents who would fit the bill at Newcastle this summer, and then we can get another couple of good loan signings in August – and we could be on our way.

Comments welcome.

Timo Hildrebrand…the GK? Hes pretty good, shame thats one of our strong points.

Signei Govou, loads of experience at playing at the top level

Auerlio talented but no point as hes always injured

I’ve always rated Quedrue, hes decent cover at LB and can fill in in the middle

Robert Koren is also a tidy player and could work well if you play 5 in the middle.

However obviously Gallas, Ballack, Cole, Beletti and Petrov would improve the team wages proably mean it they wont happen.

    @ Baro

With a world class manager i’d think so.

    ————————————————————
4 players i would love to see in a black n white shirt:-

1_Joe Cole (i highly doubt we will get him, his wages are just too high)

2_Joe Ledley ( I hope we sign him, very creative Midfielder and his wages are low too).

3_Petrov ( Class Winger, has pace and is good at crosses)

4_Uche ( over last few years, i’ve been watching the la liga, and i have to admit he is a class striker just the type of striker we need. I’d love to see him upfront with Big Andy but i doubt he would come to us)

I dont see what all the fuss is about with joe ledley, he is ok, but nothing special from what i have seen, we already have guthrie, nolan, smith, and barton aswell as vuckic and inman coming through, bringing in more midfielders will stop there development, we need a winger, right back and striker

Petrov’s wages are meant to be around £40,000 a week, which isn’t too bad for a player of his class. However if he’s injured for a while – which is possible – he could turn out as another Owen.

‘Top 30’ suggests some kind of order.

Could I point out that Nicky Butt is above Thierry Henry? Alright, Henry cheated a bit, but hes still considerably better than Nicky Butt.

you have to appreciate that that top 30 is made up of players either generally over 30 and injury prone. looking at it, cole is the only exception… would be great to have the lad but will never happen

Aliadiere is dreadful. Shows signs of skill, but ultimately is injured quite alot. I seen him play 4-5 times last season at Riverside (Steward) – it pays some bills! Most impressive player i seen, was swansea’s ashley williams.. Boro Vs Swansea.. (Alan Thompson was at this game too)

Ashley isn’t worth ‘ONE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED MILLION’ or in proper terms £1.5 billion. He’s worth around £650 – 700 million

The thing is you are all saying ashley has all this money why cant he give some to the toon….well because the club is a business not a bloody charity.

Im not sure if any of you took notice but shepherd and co took millions out a year to pay dividends to themselves and others. Ashley has put millions in to eliminate the debt that they brought up.

Im all for bashing ashley for what he has done wrong, but we cant have the owner bailing us out every transfer window. How many clubs have their owner pumping their own money in…not many. Shepherd and hall certainly didnt.

Divant worry Ciaran, I’ve knocked him around a bit recently for these silly statements.

I just can’t get him to part with his money though – he always was attached to it in an excessive fashion.

BTW, seeing as I’ve got a few people thinking I’m his father, I would like to announce I am a ‘source’ and can reveal Chris (Hughton) is looking at signing J. Cole, Ireland, Henry and one or two others…

Does anyone else think the German model of ownership should be brought into English football?

Basically, you have to have 51% of the club owned by fans, while the rest can be owned by one or more persons. This means the fans will always have a say in decisions, but are invested by some kind fellow(s), who wants to do something else with their money rather than let it rot.

It does require a really nice person (so Ashley’s out of the running) because it involves putting in your own money and getting no or very little profit in return.

Oh, and I forgot to mention there are no debts as the person putting money in doesn’t own the club and therefore can’t pass his input in off as ‘loans’ to the club, so if they borrow money to put in the club, the blame firmly lies at their door if somebody can’t pay it back

I would like this player at Magpies

    1) Joe Cole
    2) Micheal Ballack
    3) William Gallas
    4) Mikael Silvestre
    5) Julaino Belletti
    6) Thierry Henry

Even all this player quite old, but they have good experince and also can be a tutor for the youngster.

Martin Petrov would be worth £10m to £15m if he was injury free. It’s a shame a player of his class seems to get hurt so easily.

Carroll would get 20 headed goals a season if we had Petrov, Jonas, Routledge and Ryan Taylor all putting crosses in constantly, lol.

Chris Hughton must see this list and try to sign a few of these players. And to get them for free would be great. As long as there wage fee isn`t not high.

Altintop has signed a one year extension at bayern; he would have been a great signing for the club.

I see its silly season again; Joe cole, Ballack, Petrov etc etc….Newcastle are not going to sign players of that ilk!

The best we can hope for is a couple of loans and maybe the players in the list above who are not wanted by any other premiership clubs! We will not pay the wages that any decent free agent would expect or want and honestly ask yourself whether or not Ledley or Boyd would get into Newacstle’s strongest starting 11?

    I certainly don’t think so.

What we need is players who are better than what we have already; which basically means we require some financial investment to bring in players of that higher quality (via transfer fee’s or higher wages and a signing on fee if the players are on a free).

It’s all well saying we need to strengthen the squad; but apart from left back/left wing we have at least two players for every position in the team and are squad is a hell of a lot stronger than the likes of Wigan, Blackburn, West Ham, West Brom, Blackpool….etc already!

What we need is QUALITY; let’s hope we get some!!!!

    @9 etc. (jimiley et al)

It sure ’nuff make you wonder at folks ’round here. How many times has it been said, and how many times does it need to be said? But here goes one more time…..

    1) The more of his own money Cashley puts into the club, the more the club is in debt to Cashley.
    2) The more the club is in debt to Cashley the longer we are stuck with him.
    3) NUFC needs to stand independently as a viable business free of a sugar daddy even if that means three seasons fighting relegation in the bottom half of the Prem, OK?

Why do I get the impression I am wasting my time. No matter what the last 2 seasons have taught us, fans still crave the very fantasy footy trophy signings that got us into the mess in the first place. As I have speculated before, maybe we got up too quick from the Fizzy for fans to realise just what a mess the club was and still is in from the days of FFS?

Get real and visit this if you are still suicidal….

Good analysis Beefheart. There may be 500 freebies out there somewhere. It is certainly some dole queue! Question is – how many are too old by NUFC’s stated requirements? How many will have financial demands beyond our obvious financial constraints? And the final question – who does CH want and need anyway? Whoever they are they are not the fantasy “signings” of our erstwhile dreamers. Why cannot passion go hand in hand with common sense? Ashley will find a way out of Newastle eventually – perhaps when he is offered HIS dream team place on the Spurs board?

Beefy – it all depends on the era of your upbringing. Those who clambered on board during the Entertainers period will see anything less than top 5 as an underperformance, whatever the logic.

Me, Im just happy as long as no-one is p!ssing down the back of me leg and once a season someone gets a trouncing from us.

with no new money invested into team strengthening there would be a very good chance we’d end up being relegated out of those three seasons your happy fighting.

one step foward & three back – great gamble that would be….not !.

i dont hear anyone calling for trophy signings – just sensible investment as jimiley has stated about £10 million. its no big deal considering the additional 40/50 million extra the club will be getting.

it’s stupid fans like you & owners like fat ash that are prepared to gamble with the club that need to get real.
