There is news coming through Sky Sports that Newcastle may be interested in former West Ham striker Ilan.
Illan – Newcastle unlikely to be interested
The Brazilian was released by West Ham after joining them from St Etienne on the last day of the January transfer window.
But the times we saw the 29 year-old he didn’t look too impressive even though he did score 4 goals in 11 appearances for the London club.
The 5’11” striker just doesn’t fit the profile of players Newcastle manager is looking for this summer, although he does become a free agent at the end of the month.
Illan told Sky Sports:
“I did well in the Premier League and I was hoping to continue where I left off next season, but West Ham had other ideas, that’s football.”
“I have a good record here and in France so I’m confident that a club in the UK or Europe will call my agent (Rob Shield) and I can get something sorted before training starts again.”
Illan had joined St Etienne in 2006 from Sochaux, and played 113 times with 31 goals for the French side before joining Wets Ham earlier this year, and in his career he has 271 total first class appearances with 87 goals.
We’d be surprised if this story has any merit to it.

Comment #7I have only watched him a few times last season, but actually I was quite impressed with him
but then, of course, he changed the game for West Ham for a few times….while he reminded me of Lovenkrands, but I think he is a better striker overall, and he did well when he partner with Cole
I think he worths a gamble….

Comment #8I wouldnt sign him if his wages were 1K per week, horredous attitude, and a very average player overall, stay well clear, we have spent years getting rid of money grabbing players like him, we want hungry players who want to prove themselves like williamson etc

Comment #12i hate to hear that we are rejecting players who are over 26 yrs old age..some players are developed at a later age..so i feel that we can still go for players who are under 30 instead of 26…but not in this case..as i dont think ilan is good enough for us..as such..i wonder why kris boyd is not coming to us..because there is few or rather no players who have rich pl experience AND also under the age of 26..are there any..i doubt so..so CH..dont be so stubborn…

Comment #16If we sign players like this its an insult to shola.
Not saying Ilan is a bad player, but shola showed this season that he needs half a chance and will score. His finishing has been one of the many suprises this season and signing average players is not giving carroll, ameobi, loven and ranger credit.
