Steven Taylor Wants To Stay On Tyneside – To Get New Contract

Ever since there was the altercation between Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor in March there has been various news in the papers that one or other of them will be leaving the Tyneside club this summer.

Steven Taylor – new contract at Newcastle

But that’s the very last thing that Newcastle want and it turns out that both players are having new contracts prepared for them by the club.

Chelsea are the latest club said to be after Carroll and various clubs, including Arsenal are said to want Steven Taylor.

We heard definitively last week that Newcastle are working on a new long term deal for Andy Carroll and today there is news that Newcastle are also putting the final touched   on a new deal for former England U21 captain Steven Taylor.

Hughon said today:

“As I understand it, work is being done at the moment on a new contract for Steven Taylor and we are hopeful he will sign it.”

“It is something that we have been working on for a while, but these things do take some time.”

“I’ve had a chat with Steven and he is very much a player we want to keep and from what he has told me, he is also someone who very much wants to stay at Newcastle United.”

“As well as looking to sign new players this summer, which I am confident we will do, it is just as important that we keep the players we want to keep – Steven is definitely one of those.”

“He may have missed the end of last season because of injury, but he was a key member of the side before then and he played a big role in getting us back into the Premier League.”

“He is an important player for us and I want him to stay at the club.”

Those are good words form Chris – and we like the way he says he is confident he will be signing new players in the summer.

But it’s imperative that Newcastle keep all the squad they currently have and it will be a bit of a relief when both Andy and Steven sing along the bottom line – because they are both players that can do a good job for the club over the next several seasons.

I would be over the moon if taylor signs a new contract. For me he should have been made the captain last year because he plays with for newcastle with pride, heart, soul and would do anything for the team. A True Geordie!!

Needs to foget he is not the goalkeeper at times.
Not fussed if he stays or goes to be honest. He is allegedy not overly popular with the other players as he thinks he is all that.

Positional sense and decision making are erratic. Probably more effective at right back than in the middle. All this Geordie bit shouldn’t come in to it !

Yes! He is homegrown too. We need him. He is a world class defender. Can’t loose him. Plus he will 100% get more goals than Leon Best as a Defender.

i think he is very good and i remember the season before last he was amazing against arsenal before he got injured and maybe he wont be acting like the big man anymore after andy put him in his place.
