Newcastle Former Star Gary Speed Awarded MBE

Former Newcastle midfield star Gary Speed has been awarded the MBE for his services to the game of football.

Gary Speed – while at Newcastle United

Newcastle was Gary’s third club after being at Leeds United and Everton and he went on to play a total of 284 games for the famous black and whites with 40 goals from 1998 until 2004.

After leaving Newcastle he went to Bolton and then Sheffield United and in his playing career appeared in an amazing 831 games with 133 goals – a fantastic career for the Welsh-born midfielder.

Gary also played 85 times for Wales with 7 goals and has a big future in the game either as a commentator of the game or as a coach, and maybe one day we’ll see him back at Newcastle in some coaching position.

We hope so – and we offer our congratulations to Gary.

In other birthday honors announced, the beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Welsh-born actress who is now 40, was made a CBE for her services to film and charity.

Well deserved Gary, a great servant to this club and to football in general. 831 games, that’s 20 years at over 40 games a season. Can’t have been very injury prone, just the sort of player we need now.

    Yannick Djalo

WOw! Just what we need. Would be just awesome. Even though 20 million buyout clause they would let him leave for 6 million! 🙂 Very great youngster. The door is open from his club if a fee around 6 million offer comes. He would be brilliant next to Andy Carroll.

Catherine Zeta Jones? She should get her’s for services to the elderly, surely, given that she’s shacked up with oul’ Mickie Douglas.
