It’s Sunday so we can expect one or two silly stories about players Newcastle are supposed to be interested in.
Yannick Djalo – 24 year-old Sporting Lisbon forward
And we are not disappointed as there is a report that Newcastle are interested in signing 24 year-old Sporting Lisbon striker or winger Yannick dos Santos Djaló (Yannick Djalo), according to Diario de Noticias.
Newcastle are certainly are in the market for new players, but the word in Newcastle and anywhere else for that matter is that Newcastle have little and probably no money to spend on new players.
So when we read this 5’7″ forward has a €20 million buy-out clause in his contract, we wonder who really dreamed up the story and his agent immediately comes to mind. 😀
There’s 1.2 euros to the pound right now so that’s a £16.7M buy-out clause for a club who is supposed to have no money available for transfers.
The report suggests the player would be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €6M, which is around £5M, still a lot of money for one player.
The Guinea, Bissauan-born Portuguese player was expected to leave the club in last January’s transfer window, but stayed in an effort to see if he could chance to prove his worth at the Estadio de Alvalade.
He has played 74 time with 17 goals for Sporting Club and earned a place among Portugal manager Carlos Queiroz’s 50-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, but didn’t make the final cut.
The player was on loan four years ago to Casa Pia and played there 26 times with 16 goals for the other Lisbon-based club.
He’s played for all the Portugal Youth sides and once for the Portugal B side, but we’d be surprised if Newcastle are really interested in this player.
We have to think this story is coming directly from his agent, who is trying to fix him up at a club this summer.
