Stoke Ready To Sign Joe Ledley But Where Are Newcastle?

News today that Cardiff City free agent Joe Ledley is set to join Stoke City and will tunr down the chance to join Celtic.

Joe Ledley – is he headed for Stoke?

It seems that Stoke manager Tony Pulis has been trailing the 23-year-old since August 2008, when the Potters bid £6M for the player, but that offer was turned down by Cardiff.

Joe will not come completely free, as he is still under 24 and Stoke will have to agree a compensation fee with the Bluebirds, which has been quoted to be around £3M, but news today that Cardiff want as much as £4.5M.

Glasgow Celtic are also in the race to get Ledley, but the Welshman is unlikely to want to play his football in the Scottish Premiership, even though he would be given European Champions League football on Clydeside.

The move to the Britannia Stadium is expected to be completed when Joe returns from a vacation in Portugal, but we are still a little surprised that Newcastle are not interested in this player.

He would certainly improve the Newcastle squad and we were interested in this player a year or so back.   But perhaps the compensation fee that Newcastle would have to pay Cardiff, is ruling out a move by the Magpies.

It looks like Newcastle have almost nothing to spend on players this summer.

Just because he is a free agent does not mean Newcastle have to be interested. Its going to be a long summer if you keep asking why aren’t Newcastle after whoever when another club bids for them..

Like i have said in the past, if Ashley thinks we will survive in the PL with the current squad then he is sadly delusional. Ashley also has this rule of signing players under 26. Well unfortunately with no money available beggers cannot be choosers. I’m afraid if i were manager of NUFC after getting promotion and then been told there was no money then i would tell Ashley to stick his job and inform him that not releasing funds will only have the club struggling to survive in the PL and will only lead to disaster. Ohhh and remind him to give them poor workers that work abroad a bloody pay rise the tight ar2ed stuck tw4t lol. Bring Ledley in for god sake he costs peanuts in the football world. How bloody tight can you get!!!!!!!!

We haven’t gt 4.5m. How many times, there is no money. It’s not being tight, it’s what shepherd did when he raped this club.

Of course its being tight. All can see that we will struggle without any funds being released. I don’t think Ashley has much choice tbh. Either release some money for players or have a club slip back to the CC simple as that. He should run NUFC as a football club not as a bloody business. He got one of the highest gates last season even though we were in the CC yet he shats all over the fans. ASHLEY has money he just wont give any out. Plain and simple….greed.

Maybe, just maybe, we aren’t actually interested in Ledley after all, Ed?

There is money available for sure but MA wont spend it. I think MA has a plan and his plan is to purposefully lower our expectations, the problem in doing that is we will then lose hope and interest and eventually the fans will not renew season tickets and pay good money week in week out to watch our team get beat. The fans were proved right 2 seasons ago when we all said the man had no clue how to run a football club and we were eventually relegated, it seems he is consistent in his approach this season too.

I love this “release some funds” talk – release it from where exactly? If you have no money, you have no money. Ashley’s trying to run a number of businesses through a deep recession – do you think Sports Direct has a load of money sloshing around doing nothing at the moment?!

    There. Is. No. Money.

WILL YOU JUST GIVE IT A REST!!! Newcastle will have money to spend – if they did not then trust me, we would no for sure.
You go on about the papers making up transfer rumors but you are incredibly gullible and how do i support that? Yo had a feeling we could get anelka on loan – YOU MUST BE CRAZY
After all, joe ledley maybe be good enough for our current squad as he is the same quality as what we have got in the middle and he is worse in other positions – we need players who will strengthen us primarily
Money is available – just not for overrated players like him who will not do a job for us next season!

GeordieTartanArmy: “Newcastle will have money to spend – if they did not then trust me, we would no (sic) for sure”

How would we know? Maybe if they came out with an official press release saying that the club won’t be making any capital available for transfer?

Hmmm, why does that sound familiar..?

The combo I don’t like is a manager who runs the club as a business who also like s to play roulette. Now roulette is a total mugs’ game for pathological cases who reckon they always know better than the odds.
While logic dictates that if we don’t spend a little we could be relegated again and lose a helluva lot, there’s a nagging feeling that Ashole thinks he always knows best and he can’t resist the thrill of trying to be a clever dick.

‘..there’s a nagging feeling that Ashole thinks he always knows best and he can’t resist the thrill of trying to be a clever dick.’

Sav, are you saying Ashley is that same saddo who doesn’t quite have enough for the taxi fare home, but rather than walk half a mile at the other end heads off to Nobles to win the extra two quid instead?

Toon1978, problem is CH had even more reason to walk last year – but if he had we would have really been in the sh**.

Bleak insights all round this evening, gents, to be sure.

I am beginning to suspect that Ashley is secretly trying to offload the club now that the value has presumably increased since we’re in PL. That would explain the lack of funds and the complete lack of communication from the club. And I for one would not be too unhappy if it happened.
