Coloccini And Enrique Most Improved Players At Newcastle

If Newcastle are to do well next season back in the Premiership, we are going to need to have some good seasons from our better players.

Jose Enrique – top player at Newcastle last season

And two of them who had excellent seasons last season are two of our foreign contingent – Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique.

Newcastle manager believes these two were the most improved players last season, and he is looking for them to have an impact in the Premiership next season.

This is what Chris told the Newcastle Journal this morning:

“We had a few players who developed really well last year, but Jose was outstanding and so was Coloccini.”

“They have both had to get used to English football and I thought they were two of our best players in the Championship.”

“They played a huge role in getting us promoted and I was delighted with the pair of them.”

“It normally takes time for foreign players to settle, but they are both very happy here and it shows in their football.”

“It is the same with Jonás Gutiérrez. Now they have a chance to show they can be just as effective in the Premier League and I am sure they will.”

Our Spanish speaking players Coloccini, Enrique, and Gutierrez,  now on  duty at right back for Argentina at the World Cup, played so well last season, and showed an unlikely loyalty to the Newcastle club.

The three of them have turned out to be decent buys for Newcastle, although none of them came cheap – with Coloccini at £10.6M from Deportivo, Enrique at £6.2M from Villareal and Gutierrez at around £5M from Real Mallorca.

We have to hope that these three lads continue with their top form next season that they showed in last season’s wonderful Championship winning season.

Enrique is definitely looking cheaper all the time – he’s already worth two of Gutierrez.
He is one of the only players we’ve got that I look at and ask myself – Premiership quality? and the answer is a definite ‘yes’.
