Newcastle Will Definitely Bring New Players To Tyneside

It’s got to be good news this morning that Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is almost guaranteeing Newcastle fans that new players will be coming to the club.

Chris Hughton – new players definitely coming

Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“One thing I’m positive about is come the start of the season, is that we’ll have the amount of players we need to be able to compete.”

“What I have said is that we have a competitive squad, and I’m not keen to disrupt too much of what we had last season.”

And now Hughton is saying that new players will arrive, so we have to hope the club has made silent progress with some of their targets – be it free agents or loan signings – since the club has little money available this summer.

Chris continued:

“What I’m very conscious of is that we need to add to the squad.” “It’s something we’ll definitely do.”

“What’s more important than doing it right at this moment, is to make sure we bring the right players in.”

Hughton doesn’t expect many big signings by PL clubs this summer, although Manchester City will be throwing money around again, and maybe Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti will bring in a couple of big signings this summer.

Chris continued:

“The bigger signings will be from your Man Citys and Chelseas, and maybe Spurs.”

“That level of club will be bringing in the bigger signings, but there will be movement amongst all of that, and there will be movement at Newcastle.”

“What happens at this stage of the season is you’re starting to see a slow drip of transfers, and that will escalate.” “What’s more important than bringing in players early, is bringing in players.”

Hughton has so far been linked with loan moves for Manchester United pair Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck and also 18 year-old Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere.

Before the end of July we would hope to see new players on Tyneside for next season.

    Henok,
what do you expect him to say – “there’ll all carp and they’ll be cannon fodder next season” – would that be good management?
West Broms squad is about the same and certainly no better than ours – Sunderland? Not much better. West Ham? Ditto. Wigan (N’Zogbia, Brumble? ring any bells?); Bolton (I saw them play Stoke last year – absolutely awful standard!).
Don’t get me wrong, it will be a long hard season, but, right now, before we see transfers at each of the clubs? Wiil Toon stay up – yes – better than 5 or 6 teams/squads in the division potentially.

Jonas? Colo? Harps? Enrique? Carroll? Taylor? Nolan?

There are at least 10 Prem teams that would be envious of any one of these players, let alone the fact they now form the solid backbone of our side. HET, you have the problem, not the squad.

Captain Beefheart and Toytowntoonfan…first of all our players quality is not even close to mackems and west ham…well…can any one say we have a striker who can score 15 goals a year or can any one say we have a mid field that have a player who can assist 10 goals ….well the answer is noooooooooo
look at mackems…bent, lee, cana, jones, turner…compare them with carroll, barton, loven, colo i am sure u will see a huge difference

    henok,

bent v carroll is an unfair comparison till carroll has had a full season in prem, as for others i’d take barton, loven and colo everytime. though jones would be a good signing.

I have to agree with CH, the Newcastle squad is in pretty good shape at the moment. It’s important to bring in the right players who can add something we haven’t already got. Big names with big price tags don’t guarantee success, we know that only too well (Owen, Luque, Viduka, Boumsong, Viana to name just a few!). We need to bring in five or six top youngsters and build a team around them!

    Possible NUFC Squad next season:
(Gaps show areas that need strengthening)

    GK: Harper
    GK: Krul
    RB:
    RB: Simpson
    RB: R. Taylor
    CB: S. Taylor
    CB: Coloccini
    CB: Williamson
    CB:
    CB: Kadar
    LB: Jose Enrique
    LB:
    RM:
    RM: Routledge
    CM: Nolan
    CM: Barton
    CM:
    CM: Smith
    CM: Vuckic
    CM/LM: Guthrie
    LM: Jonas
    CF: Carroll
    CF: Lovenkrands
    CF: Ameobi
    CF:
    CF: Best

One young player we could sign is the former Manchester United midfielder Sam Hewson. He is now a free agent and he’s a real talent!

Toon barmy, thts a decent squad by numbers but there isnt any real quality after the starting 11, even for the starting 11 we are missing a striker and a rb.

And 5/6 youngters no chance, we need 3 players and thts the most i can see coming. We need a starting right back (someone who cud also possibly cover at cb is needed be) and we need a striker to play alongside carroll. We also need a winger, anything happens to routledge and jonas then we are screwed because barton, guthrie cant play on the wings, and vuckic is yooung and untried.

My main worry is not enough goals in the current squad, we will conceed a few but will we score enough to survive jst not sure with carroll, lovenkrands, ameobi and best. it doesnt look promising!

Why do I get the uneasy feeling that every management meeting between Llambias and Hughton ends with, “..,,,..you are happy with the players you’ve got, three, two, one…Back in the room…!”

Basically the 3 players that have left need replacing – Butt, Hall & Pancrate. I’d say Boyd, Sendoras & Ledley would be perfect to come in – all frees, all would do a job. And i honestly think as far as it goes that would do it. Put Ranger & Forster out on loan, try and do the same with Best (or even sell him, though i doubt we’d have anyone interested after the half season he’s had with us). That would mean we’d have Carroll, Boyd, Ameobi & Lovenkrands as forward choices, which is better than many teams in the PL i could name. Midfield – Barton, Smith, Guthrie, Nolan, Vuckic, Ledley (who could also cover for Enrique at left back), Gutierrez, Routledge. Defence – Kadar, the Taylor’s, Coloccini, Sendoras, Williamson, Simpson, Enrique. And Harper & Krul as goalies. Thats not a bad team at all. It was hard to judge the players when theyu went down – that was a demoralised squad, no confidence, hideous situation. Guthrie especially has improved massively in the championship, and lets face it, going down was the best thing that could’ve happened to Carroll. They now have a spirit, and like i say, 3 players to come in and replace the guys who left, and i’d be confident of finishing in a decent position. Home form is key. We are going to get outclassed by Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U etc. But we can give everyone from position 8 downwards a game on any given day, and thats what counts. Sunderland thought they were the shit beating Arsenal and Liverpool, but its meaningless if you can’t beat Burnley & Wigan!
