Magpies Transfer Dealings This Summer

Another good interview with Newcastle manager Chris Hughton in the Evening Chronicle today, where Chris stresses that the right players have to be brought in over the summer.

Chris Hughton – must bring in the right players

Chris was specifically asked if the players he has as targets for the club will excite Newcastle fans.

Chris answered that question as follows:

“I hope so. Among all that we want to do pre-season, there’s also, of course, a realisation that there aren’t the finances that there were before.”

“If I look at some of the big-name signings this club has made in the past for big money, there’s a realisation we’re not in those times now.”

“What we have to make sure we do is bring in the right players, rather than names that are just going to excite.”

“We have to add to what we’ve already got, improve what we’ve got, and are going to be fixtures in the team that we have.”

“Among all of that, there will be transfers this summer, and we will be involved in some transfer dealings this summer.”

So that last sentence is interesting – does it mean that we will be bringing in some transfers for money, or that they are free agent signings and loan signings only.

With the expectations with Newcastle  fans now so low, a real transfer deal for real money will now come as a big surprise on Tyneside – but maybe that was  the initial thinking?

We should find out within the next 6 weeks or so.

Yeah I’m sure CH realises that the fans need some feed back and as MA never speaks publicly it flls on his toes. The vibes seem good and CH has proven in the last season that he knows a good player when he sees one. I think some money will be available but only a small amount about £10m and he will want to spread that thinly on a couple of players. To be honest together with the up and coming youngsters he will give a run this season I think we will be fine.

Who will be sold is the question and looks likely that some will go, hopefully no one from the first team but we need money from somewhere.

interesting that the Ronnie seems to think that CH has got the signing of a new centre forward high on his agenda. Portugese CF maybe?

Ed mate, what do you class as a ‘real transfer deal for real money’??

If we have any money it’ll be from the new Puma & Northern Rock sponsorships, which will be about £20m over 4 years or summit like that, so don’t expect too much money to be spent guys!! I can’t see Ashley allowing Ch the full £20m this season as that’s what he went on at FFS for doing with the Owen fiasco, so CH will get a quarter of that if anything…

As for your comment Henok, are you a muckem supporter or just plain stupid??

WC is boring me already, especially the way England played the other nite, what a crock of crap!!!

Unfortunately Elia is on long 5 year contract to Hamburg on the 09 transfer window for 8.5m. Heard from the commentator in the Holland match that he turned down tottenham and man city too, so I don’t think we have a chance.

Nonetheless, to sign a player of his mould (young, quick and an international) would be brilliant.

Okay, so Elia is out – what positions and who should we ne going for (are we agreed it will be bright young talent that Hughton will focus on or not?).
    Huck.

i think that poulsen from denmark (the one that played lb today) looked a decent player, dont know who he plays for etc but looked like he’d be a decent cover for jose enrique, also altidore looked quite strong against england on saturday and could be a good shout

DENNIS ROMMEDHAL WOULD BE A GREAT SIGNING – not excactly on many wish lists adding to the fact he played brilliantly against Holland today

i have tons of explanation for why Chris must get sacked
1st, lack of experience in the epl
2nd, i haven’t seen any tactical change on nufc game
3rd, we were dominated almost by all championship clubs away from home
4th, lack of bringing quality players ex
    *best
    *williamson
    *simpson
5th, he is ability to use youth players

It is obvious that the fat one has loads of money (look at the profits his company Sports Direct are making. They want to buy up other companies) but he will not invest 10 million in players. He will not invest that amount of money to ensure we stay in the Prem but would rather gamble on our staying up by not investing. How much would relegation cost him in comparison to a 10 million investment. How crap is that? His greatest crime is taking away our hopes and dreams. We will be a struggling team and the fat one does not care. A team of head-ballers like Stoke and Wimbledon. We should stay up if we get the breaks. Thanks fat man. And the prospects for the following years are no better. Please go.

And I can hear the Ashley apologists saying “be patient” Sorry, but I’ll be dead. We won the league in 1927. The centenary is coming around and we are miles away from it.

Henok no wants to debate with you because anyone with a different idea to yours is a bitch or an idiot. You’re lack of English skills means you don’t understand tone and you are a negative nancy. You strike me as the sort of fan who would love to see us lose our first four games simply so you could say “See I was right”.

    You’re a muppet Henok

Sorry lads, but that doesn’t make a great deal of sense and to be poring over every sentence like lawyers on overtime gives me a pain in the hole. Its certainly not plain English. The second part could mean we will be selling players just as easily as buying them.
I’ve tired of scratching around like hens looking for crumbs amongst the scant words we get from this lot. Maybe its just discretion. Maybe Hughton is happy to do as he’s told and take whstever he’s given. I don’t know and neither do any of the rest of ye.
I’m off to try and enjoy the world cup and forget about this blasted team I support.

    Que sera, sera.
