Celtic’s Greek striker 25 year-old Georgios Samaras is reported to be part of a shock switch to Premiership club Newcastle United.
Georgios Samaras – is this guy good enough?
The 6’4″ striker, who can also play on the wing, moved to Celtic in 2008 from Manchester City and in 97 games for the Scottish giants has scored 36 goals.
There is a report in The Daily Record the player is wanted by Tyneside club Newcastle United.
Newcastle had been rumoured to be after Rangers’ striker Kris Boyd – although manager Chris Hughton has denied they are interested in Kris – for anybody who wants to listen.
Samaras may be available from Celtic, with new manager Neil Lennon now in place, and perhaps said to be keen to cash in on the inconsistent striker, as Georgios enters the last 12 months of his contract on Clydeside.
hit-and-miss striker as he enters the last 12 months of his contract.
The news form Scpotlans is that Samaras is expected to cost around £1.5M from Celtic – and that amount is probably available to Hughotn.
Samaras moved to Manchester City from Dutch club Heerenveen for £6M in 2006, but was hardly impressive for the Eastlands club, and in around 55 appearances in Manchester he scored just 12 goals.
Clubs in Italy and Spain are also said to be interested in the Heraklion, Greece born striker, but we have to wonder whether this hit or miss striker is good enough to improve the Newcastle squad.
We don’t think so – but what do you think?
