Newcastle fans were delighted when the PSV friendly was arranged for pre-season, and a pre-season game every July will be used to honor the former great man and fantastic manager.
Bobby Robson – a terrific man and a great manager
Newcastle manager Chris Hughton talked about the upcoming pre-season friendly game:
“It’s a combination of a few things – the appeal of PSV Eindhoven, and, of course, the Sir Bobby Robson anniversary as well, and I’m sure that will make for another superb occasion.”
“It’s a good quality game for us, and one that we, and the fans, can look forward to.” “What will happen over the pre-season is that the last four games will be of a very good, competitive standard, and PSV fits very nicely into that one.”
“It’s always trying to get the balance right between the standard of the opposition and a different style of football. PSV is a very competitive team, and they will come with a good side, and looking to compete.
“They’ll be very close to the start of their season as well, and it’s the right standard of game that we’re looking for.”
It will be just a terrific game that Newcastle and PSV fans will cherish, and maybe next season we can arrange a game with Ipswich in July – to celebrate Bobby Robson’s life.
Bobby was at Ipswich Town FC from January, 1969 until he took the England manager job in August 1982. and of course he performed many miracles at Portman Road.
Bobby’s management record at Ipswich was 709 Games – 316 Wins – 220 Losses and 173 Draws – for a win percentage of 44.57 – just fantastic for a club that never had any money to spend.
