Hughton Not Scheduled To Visit South Africa – Yet

Chris Hughton is currently on vacation in the Caribbean but that has not stopped the Newcastle manager from taking in some of the World Cup games on TV.

Chris Hughton – not scheduled to visit the World Cup

Chris talked about the World Cup so far:

“It’s been very cagey so far and there is clearly a bit of fear and a sense of just not wanting to lose,”

“It’s not like the league where you get a chance to put things right over the course of a season – if you lose a game you’re really up against it.”

“But I think we will start to see teams coming out and attacking now they now that they have to win to get through.”

“There are far too many good players in South Africa for there not to be entertaining football over the course of the tournament.”

But Newcastle have scouts in South Africa watching some of their targets– although the Evening Chronicle today are saying that it appears that most of  the Newcastle targets this summer are British based players.

Chris continued:

“I’m not scheduled to go to South Africa but I’m keeping an open mind on it,”

The three loan players we keep hearing we are after are Manchester United pair Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck – and Arsenal’s young up and coming superstar, 18 year-old midfielder Jack Wishere – and indeed they are all British based.

We were hoping Newcastle may try to sign Cardiff City’s Joe Ledley, but it appears that Stoke City are current favorites to sign the player.
