As most Newcastle fans will realize over the last few weeks there is precious little happening at the Newcastle club as far as transfers are concerned, and manager Chris Hughton has even come out and confirmed that today.
Vladimir Weiss – Manchester City winger is reported Newcastle target
Chris has also appealed for the trust of Newcastle supporters, after freely admitting progress in his summer recruitment drive has so after been very very slow.
The Newcastle manager is back at his desk today after a trip to the Caribbean, and we now know that Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley and Manchester City’s Slovakian Vladimir Weiss, who played for Slovakia again yesterday in their 2-0 loss to Paraguay, are three players on his target loan list.
Weiss, who was born in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, is just 20 years old and looks a very good player in the making, and he can also play on either wing, so we think he would be an excellent loan signing for the club.
Hughton said today:
“We’ve not really moved forward over the last few weeks – we’re still working on our targets,”
“I know from a supporter’s point of view they want to be hearing names and they want to be seeing us bringing in new players as soon as possible. That is totally understandable and I can understand their feelings.”
“But for me the most important thing is that we bring in the right players that we need to bring in.” “I have been offered players by agents but I don’t feel they would add anything significant to the squad.”
“I am having a lot of conversations at the moment and work is on-going. I don’t feel that we can afford to just wait and see what happens, we know we want to bring players in before the start of the season.”
“I would just say to them that we do want to bring in the right players and I feel confident that we will bring in the right players.” “I said all along that we have good players here who will be better for that experience in the Championship,”
“We can’t forget that and they will form the basis of the team for next season.”
We’ll have to be patient because there is very little going on with the World Cup in progress, but the news is that Hughton is looking for a right back, a winger and a striker as priorities – but we would hope a central midfielder is also on his list.
A good midfielder with lots of creativity since that will add something to the team.
There is a big worry with Newcastle supporters that the required cash is just not available this summer to strengthen the squad sufficiently but when you look at Chris Hughton’s record over the last years Newcastle manager, nobody could have done better.
We’ve had high profile managers in the past who have failed to bring us success, and we have to be buoyed by Hughton’s start as Newcastle manager, which has been just excellent, let’s face it.
Add to that he’s a sensible and down-to-earth guy, and we have hope that he will get the job done this summer, just like he did last January.
