Don’t Expect Jonas At Right Back For Newcastle Any Time Soon

Chris Hughton has come out today and said the obvious – he will not be using Jonas Gutierrez at right back for his Newcastle United side any time soon.

Jonas Gutierrez – will not be playing right back for Newcastle

Chris Hughton told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I spoke to him the day before the Nigeria game and I knew he was going to be playing there. The Argentina coach (Diego Maradona)  likes him there,  and played him at right-back before the World Cup.”

“I have not considered him there, but I know it a position which at certain stages Jonas can drop into as he is good at the defensive side of the game.”

“However, it is not a position for which I will be considering him.”

Jonas of course played the first two games for Argentina at right back,  but he will miss tonight’s game against Greece because of receiving a yellow card in each of those games.

It’s expected that Diego Maradona will bring in 22 year-old Nicolás Otamendi of Velez Sarsfield to play in the right back position tonight.

We would expect Argentina can fairly easily get their third win of the tournament against Greece, and they certainly can win the World Cup,  with their defense being the only question – whether the central defense of Walter Samuel and Martín Demichelis is good enough.

If only they had selected Newcastle’s Fabricio Coloccini – they would be in great shape right now. 😀

Hope he is not RB for Argentina again either. Want to see him on the wing. Oh, by the way Ashley – he is not for sale!

Ericles….no if hes crap for Argentina it will keep others away :D.

And playing him at right back is ridiculous, 50% of Jonas’ game is about running and effort and that is taken away from him at right back…and the other 40% of the his game is carrying the ball, also taken away from him at right back.

A hard working winger who does good work defensively does not mean he is a defender!!!!
