Jermaine Defoe And James Milner Set To Start For England

From what the English gossip press is reporting this morning, England manager Fabio Capello is set to start both Jermaine Defoe and James Milner for England.

Jermaine Defoe – starts for England today?

Jermaine Defoe is quoted as coming in for the woeful Emile Heskey, who surely played his last game for England against Algeria last Friday.

And James Milner is thought to be set to replace Aaron Lennon on the right wing, but Milner will have to control himself from the out-of-control player he seemed to be against the USA a week last Saturda

It seemed that game was just too much for the inexperienced 24 year-old International, who played four years at Newcastle United.

James was booked in the first 30 minutes of that game, and may have been sent off with a second yellow card had the England manager not quickly replaced him before half-time arrived.

West Ham’s Matthew Upson will replace the suspended Carragher alongside John Terry and if these rumors are true this seems to be the England team that will go out and try to win the game and qualify for the last 16 later today:

Johnson Terry Upson Cole (A)
Milner Barry Lampard Gerrard
Rooney Defoe

That’s not the side we would start becasue we would have left Lampard out and started Gerrard in the middle of the park – where he plays best.

The side we would start includes Joe Cole on the left and Wright-Phillips on the right as follows:

Johnson Terry Upson Cole (A)
Wright-Phillips Barry Gerrard Cole (J)
Rooney Crouch

Fabio has surprised us in this World Cup with his team selection and today we are hearing all the brave talk from our players.

But talk is cheap and we all know that.

Execution today, when it matters,  is what’s important, but we have to hope that whoever plays today – they will give their all for their country – anything else and this will be a disgraced England team that returns home this week.

Comments welcome.

The whole country seems to be wanting J Cole to play but what has Capello seen to stop him playing Cole?
Cole was imo the best player in the last tournament we played in and ok he’s back from injury but he IS BACK from injury!

Rooney’s been bad so let’s hope he pulls his finger out and starts playing, the way he should stop people booing by playing some decent football.

Somebody at work mentioned that for this game Keegan would be a better England manager. I couldn’t agree more. With England having a defensive manager we are playing a tactic more suited to our weakness rather than strengh. Keegan would go cavalier, which is just what is needed, after all, who cares if we concede ten, as long as we score at least eleven. Totaly agree with Mac @ post 2 btw.

I think it’s a f*****g travesty that Gerrard, our best central midfielder, is playing on the left.

Capello is basically saying that a half fit Gareth Barry is better than Gerrard in the middle.

Gerrard is possibly our best player and should have a team built around him imho, Lampard’s been a joke in an England shirt however I’d probably go for a midfield 5

    Milner-Lamp-Gerrard-Barry-J Cole

    with Rooney up front

    or mf 4 of

    Milner-Gerrard-Barry-J Cole

    Capello’s picked:

I never wanted capello as manager, hated him from when he was at real madrid, the players couldnt stand him, through his career he has always refused to change tactics etc. I would rather have harry redknapp if we have an english manager, and hiddink if foreign.

I still cant believe gerrard is playing from the right, I still think adam johnson would be great playing there for us, with milner on the right, with barry, gerrard and lampard in the centre, nice balance, and players in the right position, cant believe adam johnson was left behind.

Agreed geordielad880, Capello’s biggest mistake not taking A Johnson.
