Newcastle United are very well off for goalkeepers with Steve Harper and two 22 year-olds – Fraser Forster and Tim Krul, both looking like top class keepers in the making.
Rais M’Bolhi – goalkeeper beats England’s Wayne Rooney to the ball
So when we see a report that Newcastle are after a goalkeeper, there’s a 99% chance it’s a completely made up story.
And news today that Newcastle are reportedly interested in Algeria and Slavia Sofia goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi.
The 24-year-old, who was born in Paris and stands 6’3″ tall, currently plays for Slavia Sofia in Bulgaria and he has already played at 7 different clubs since signing on at Racing Club de France in Paris back in 1995, when he was just 9 years old.
The player has been at Marseilles, Hearts, Ethnikos Piraeus, Panetolikos F.C. and F.C. Ryukyu in Japan, since he left Paris and before he moved to Slavia Sofia last year.
His claim to fame is that he played well against England in the 0-0 draw, in what was only his second appearance for Algeria.
However, Ventsislav Stefanov, the president of Slavia Sofia, his current club, told The Sun today:
“Newcastle’s interest is very strong,”
The Sun says that the Newcastle club are getting ready a £1M bid to bring M’Bolhi to the famous Tyneside club, since he still has one year of his two year contract at Slavia Sofia to run.
But we would expect manager Chris Hughton to deny this, as soon as he hears this story.
