There is an odd report out today from French daily L’Equipe that Newcastle United have had a £5M bid for Turkish striker Mevlut Erding turned down by French club Paris St Germain.
Mevlut Erding – have Newcastle bid for this player?
We’re not sure what to make of this report, and it could be completely made up, so take it with a pinch of salt.
23-year-old Erding however did have a good season at PSG last year, and scored 19 goals as the French team finished in only 15th spot in French Ligue 1.
The 23 year-old is of Turkish descent, was born in Saint-Claude in France in February, 1987, and already has 10 caps for Turkey. The lad has also played for both the France and Turkish Youth sides, and he seems a decent player.
The 5’11” striker moved to PSG last summer following four seasons at Sochaux where he scored 25 goals in 84 appearances for the French club, and was voted PSG’s top player for the first half of last season.
Erding has an excellent goal-scoring record do far at PSG, scoring a total of 19 goals in just 32 appearances, not too bad at all, and indeed in 118 total appearances this youngster has an impressive 44 goals.
French daily L’Equipe is reporting today that Newcastle United have made a bid of £5M (reported as €6M) for Erding but that PSG have immediately rejected the offer.
The Newcastle manager is reported to have only limited money available this summer for new players, and we’re surprised he would even have this much available for all new players this summer.
If this report is true, it’s good news for a number of reasons, one is that Chris will have some money to spend this summer, and more than we thought, and this lad looks like a very good goal-scorer.
If we did sign this lad it would delight most Newcastle fans, and that could be an under-statement.
