Magpies £5M Bid For Turkish Striker Rejected By PSG

There is an odd report out today from French daily L’Equipe  that Newcastle United have had a £5M bid for Turkish striker Mevlut Erding turned down by French club Paris St Germain.

Mevlut Erding – have Newcastle bid for this player?

We’re not sure what to make of this report, and it could be completely made up, so take it with a pinch of salt.

23-year-old Erding however did have a good season at PSG last year, and scored 19 goals as the French team finished in only 15th spot in French Ligue 1.

The 23 year-old is of Turkish descent, was born in Saint-Claude in France in February, 1987, and already has 10 caps for Turkey. The lad has also played for both the France and Turkish Youth sides, and he seems a decent player.

The 5’11” striker moved to PSG last summer following four seasons at Sochaux where he scored 25 goals in 84 appearances for the French club, and was voted PSG’s top player for the first half of last season.

Erding has an excellent goal-scoring record do far at PSG, scoring a total of  19 goals in just 32 appearances, not too bad at all, and indeed in 118 total appearances this youngster has an impressive 44 goals.

French daily L’Equipe is  reporting today that Newcastle United have made a bid of £5M (reported as €6M) for Erding but that PSG have  immediately rejected the offer.

The Newcastle manager is reported to have only limited money available this summer for new players, and we’re surprised he would even have this much available for all new players this summer.

If this report is true, it’s good news for a number of reasons, one is that Chris will have some money to spend this summer, and more than we thought, and this lad looks like a very good goal-scorer.

If we did sign this lad it would delight most Newcastle fans, and that could be an under-statement.

Comments welcome.

Boselli was available for that sum, although he’s 2 years older than Erding but 32 goals in 57 games for Estudiantes says it all for me.
Roberto MArtinez must be on cloud number 9 atm for having a player like that in Wigan.

This story has 2 sides of which 1 is very good and the other extremely bad.
The good one is that maybe we have some kind of money available afterall.

The bad side is that we bid only half of this player’s real value + its their best player + they are in Europe + they have no financial problem.

This bid was doomed from the start imo,,so the question is,is this bid just some kind of mirage so the fans would think that the fat s**t is actually doing something in the transfer market.

Well if we do get this player for what ever amount he goes for, it’ll be just like Jan transfer window when we didn’t expect to get any new players & all of sudden we had 4 new player & 2 loanees come in the door…. so as the statement said ‘we have no plans for capital outlay this summer’ mean we still have money to spend if we need too…. unless as I stated back then & any project manager will back me up on this, a plan is a living thing, it changes day to day 🙂

Partizan .. you’re right I reckon .. just fat boy letting on he’s working on getting a decent striker .. he’s mad to think he’ll get him for anything less than what they paid for him..

I mentioned this player here in January, when reports were out we actually had some money to spend. Check this out:

    VERY technically talented player.

This striker could be available for 2-3 mill,a very hot prospect in France atm.
Just check out his first touch for the second goal.

Anthony Modeste is quality, but he seems to be a bit like Carroll. Big guy..

A player who would be a really smart and good buy is Nolan Roux.

22 years old, France u-21 side (but still quite unknown) and Brest.

So lets get this right, theres a story in a french paper that we have bid for a player and somehow its all part of an elaborate plan by MA to mislead the fans!? You don’t actually believe that do you?

they actually do mate, its really not even funny how deluded some people have actually become with the ashley situation. Paranoid to death about him, lookin for any sniff of a hint of an issue to make into a conspiracy theory. Get over it you jokers.

Noir…..Why would PSG accept that loss, this bid was a big NO NO from the start and pretty obvious i must say.

There is an old saying in my country”I’m looking for a job but at the same time i’m praying not to find it”……this looks exactly the same case with Ashley and this silly bid.

i fully agree with you everyone has a right to their opinion etc, and to be honest i wasnt really referring to you alone, there are alot of people who come on here and seem to have more interest in ashley bashing, than nufc supporting. Hes obviously just trying to spend as little as possible, if this was a real bid then i dont see the issue, surely we wouldnt jump in with a 10 millions bid straight away.. Look at viana? Im glad those days are over.

Just a first bid to test the water.. They apparantly said no, so im sure if its true newcastle will reply with a stronger bid. I dont see the problem with ashley tryin to get newcastle a good deal on a player for a change.

JSYproject .. agreed but 5mill will be seen as derogatory .. strange bid .. its like offering 10 million for messi .. not a chance ..
So if this isn’t a duff offer its plain stupidity as usual .. don’t know whats worse..

I hope this true that we want this talented player, and we certainly improve and bumber the offer a little. To probably 7-8 million. That will do it. 🙂

Yeah but is he better than Boyd? 😉

Seriously though, could we have money to spend or is it that we are selling to pay for it like mentioned by sweendog but selling Carroll would be a joke at this time unless he’s definately gonna be banged up or there’s something we don’t know about his temperament and altercation with STaylor!

I would love to see this youngster teaming up with Andy Carroll. A friend of mine living in Paris says he is a fan favorite and would be really hard to get. But him and Big Andy, that would be a force to be reckoned with. Here’s to dreaming!

Although as a fan I dont like what MA is doing, but as a business person I totally see what he’s doing. He is actually doing what best to bring back financial stability to Newcastle. Long gone are the days when we can afford to spend ridiculous money for supposed super-stars. If we can manage to stay in the league for a few years and cut cost while actually making money I guess it should be ok. Just dont expect we can do a Chelsea/Manchester City, we have to be realistic.
