Mevlut Erdinc has come out today and said he is quite happy at PSG in France.
Mevlut Erdinc – I’m happy in France
The 23 year-old 5’11” striker only signed for the French club last summer, and the amount was reported to be €9M from Sochaux-Montbéliard, which at today’s rates is around £7.4M.
One thing that immediately stands out is that if Newcastle bid only £5M, no wonder the French club it turned down flatly – who wants to lose £2.5M on a player who has already scored 19 goals in 32 appearances for the club.
Of course the fee Newcastle bid may not be accurate but with Carroll, Lovenkrands, Ameobi, Best and young Nile Ranger now at Newcastle, surely they will sell somebody if indeed Mevlut Erdinc arrives on Tyneside.
The reports today are suggesting that his club PSG are holding out for closer to £8M, and that wouldn’t surprise us at all.
And today the 23 year-old was diplomatic in saying he was happy at PSG:
“I am not thinking about moving. I belong to PSG, but it is up to them,”
“I want to have a great season and play at my best without any injuries.”
Erdinc was hampered by one or two small injuries last season, although he did appear 32 times for the Paris based club but it seems he is looking to get completely fit for the new season, whichever club he’s at in six weeks time:
“I want to be back to 100 per cent. Last season was too hard for me.”
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton is looking for a striker and seems not to be interested in free agent Kris Boyd, and the reports keep mentioning that Birmingham and Stoke continue to show an interest in Newcastle’s impressive 21 year-old striker, Andy Carroll.
But there should be no way Newcastle will sell this lad, but maybe they will try to unload 23 year-old Leon Best if their bid for the Turkish International is successful.
But it seems that Newcastle will need to raise their bid at least 50%, just for PSG not to lose money on a player whose record is excellent.
However, with money so tight on Tyneside that seems an awful lot to pay for just one player.
