Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is close to signing a new four year deal at Newcastle, and Chris Hughton has compared his 21 year-old star to 6’7″ England International Peter Crouch.
Andy Carroll – similar player to Crouch – but better?
It’s been obvious for a while now that Andy only wants to play for Newcastle, but that has not stopped the gossip press this summer from insisting he will leave Newcastle.
Andy has again told the Daily Star today:
“This is where I’m from and Newcastle are the only team for me.”
Many clubs, including Stoke, Birmingham and Chelsea are said to be interested in the tall 6’4″ striker, but he is within days of signing his new four year improved contract at Newcastle.
And Newcastle manager Chris Hughton, who has guided the youngster well over the past season, and will welcome back his first team squad to pre-season training tomorrow at the Benton training facilities, has compared Andy to 6’7″ Peter Crouch:
“Andy is a bit like Crouch. Crouchy is probably four inches taller – but they are similar.”
“Andy is such a good technical header of the ball that, if the quality of the delivery is right, he will usually get it on target.”
Peter Crouch is a good player, and can cause much confusion in the opponent’s penalty area by getting to most of the high balls played into the box, and of course he should have played for England in the World Cup in place of the completely inept Emile Heskey, who cannot even get his game for his club Aston Villa, and cannot score goals.
Peter didn’t play one minute in the World Cup finals, and he must have been thinking what he had done to upset Capello so much.
We do think Andy still has a lot of improvement to make as a player, and under the very good and experienced coaching skills of Chris Hughton, we expect him to do just that over the next couple of seasons.
And if anything the Gateshead-born striker could end up a better player than Peter.
We hope so anyway.
